A little preamble before I give my two cents. If you're looking for a 5-star restaraunt, this isn't it. If you're looking for something comparable to the modern day eateries, this ain't it. If you're a local raised in Houston and the surrounding communities, then you know what Hartz is.
Hartz Chicken Buffet is a slight variation of the "greasy spoon". This ain't a salad bar. It's a "down home fried chicken & fixin's" establishment. And it's simple. No fancy extras to drive price up. No fancy "edge-a-macated" chef, just line cooks who know how to get it done.
Now that's over with, my review. Having grown up in the Houston area, I'm veryy familiar with the Hartz chain. It was sad to see a couple of them close down on my side of town. But lo and behold, I accidentally found one here in Pasadena (or Deer Park). And this one I must say is THE BEST I have ever been to. You can tell by the large lunch crowd that people love this place. It's cleaner than some others I've been to. The staff is friendly and attentive. And for $11, I get more satisfaction here than going to a trendy health joint.
What more can I say. If your hungry, on a budget, or just want to see what it's about, try it....
Read moreI had a soft spot for this place as I saw all seniors working here in this location. The vibe of this place is old-fashioned, and somehow, I feel like, it is very Houstonian style. I had a slow lunch buffet by myself, next to the windows, enjoyed the food and the vibe here. I tried liver and gizzards, I removed all of the bread banter around, it was good, not smelly at all. $16 for all you can eat buffet here, I ate a lot of beetroot and green bean, really liked both of them. Grilled chicken (?) was great, much better than the fried ones, not a fan of fried food though. Sometimes, the beauty of having food is just sitting there and enjoying food slowly, seeing old couples in the store and having lunch together after certain amount of...
Read moreLast night Me and my son showed up a little before 8pm after football practice he really wanted to eat here so that's where we came. Doors were locked and lady was throwing away all the food we were at the door but she just started yelling telling us to leave they say open until 9 but they were shutting it down there was a young man working who told us we could order from the drive thru though but we just decided to go somewhere else but just think a manager or someone in charge should know they're doing this I've worked food industry also as a manager and this would be completely unacceptable anywhere. I'd understand if we showed up like 15 mins before closing but we were over an hour away from...
