Liked this place when it first opened. Food was superior, service was excellent. Really wanted to find it held up over time. Had too many missteps this time to keep it's higher rating. I was really looking forward to a hot, cheesy, delicious meal. Arrived at about 7:30 on a weeknight. Three cars in the parking lot. Hmmm? Ordered a side of guacamole and Chile Verde pork enchiladas with rice and beans. Enchiladas were large, pork was tender, sauce was OK, lots of cheese. Rice was amazing. Flavorful, fluffy, delicious. Beans used to be so good. Now they suffer from lack of flavor, under-salted, dull. Got a stale batch of chips the first go round. Asked for a replacement and the new batch was better, but the salsa disappointed. Tasted like they added a bottle of ketchup to a can of grocery store salsa. Couldn't eat it. I never got the guacamole. Had to get up and find my waitress to ask about it. She seemed surprised that I wanted guacamole. Wish I had not bothered. Rather bland with a nut-like after taste. Needed a do-over. Lose the tomato, add some salt, garlic, and lemon juice to bring it up in flavor. There were a total of two tables of customers the entire time I was there. They used to be packed for dinner. They offer a Sunday brunch as well as a short list of Persian items on the menu. I have not tried either yet. They also have a small bar with sports on the TVs. Lots of parking. Location is not convenient to downtown, but really only a couple blocks north of 24th on Spring. (it's the old location of Sr. Sancho's). The interior is nice, subdued, spacious, and comfortable. The photos are blue from the lighting...
Read moreI don't want to detract from what is clearly a decent establishment. The food was well prepared, the service was very good (and he had a large family table to handle with multiple checks, kids, and dietary restrictions - he handled it like a boss. I'm terrible with names, but seriously, great job man).
Su Casa is clearly Mexican/Latin food targeted at white people. I didnt see anyone that wasn't the primary demographic of Paso Robles in here tonight. The menu is safe, a little pricey for the portion, and the dishes came out looking pretty good. Seasoning was unambitious and inoffensive. The rice was tasty, slightly overcooked (not mushy), the beans were just slightly underseasoned with excellent texture. The mole sauce for the enchiladas de mole was on the sweet side, without the usual depth of flavor one usually thinks of with a mole. The steak fajitas had a good sear and were nestled on a generous (possibly overly) portion of vegetables. The chips and salsa were bog standard with a salsa that ran more to tomato sauce than anything that might challenge a palate. This is a perfect place for picky eaters. It's safe food for people who want their taco Tuesday free from unfamiliar textures or too bright flavors.
I genuinely don't want this to be taken as a negative. I'm not the target demographic for a restaurant like this, but it's still good food, served with welcoming charm in a lovely environment.
I don't see myself returning, but I would certainly encourage someone who may want something safer to go...
Read moreWe went today for their Sunday brunch buffet that is served until 1pm. We got there at 11:30 and many of the dishes on the buffet line were low and picked through. We kept thinking they were going to refill it and even heard other customers telling them certain items were out. They very slowly started to bring more food out at around 12:15 but only items like scrambled eggs - no meat, soup or enchilada dishes! The service was TERRIBLE and the waitress messed up our drink order. Then we had to hunt her down to refill our waters and she brought ONE glass of water back to the table! When I asked her if we could ALL have refills on our water she acted annoyed and eventually brought back a pitcher of water to the table like she should have done in the first place. By 12:30 we were just done with our dining experience -and the buffet was still not restocked with food! We had hunt down our waitress once again to ask for our bill - as she never came back to our table after finally refilling our waters - then she never came back to get our check to ring us up. The place was maybe a 1/4 full with people so it's not like she was super busy. We had to wait up at the front with our bill to pay and finally another waiter came and took our bill and handed it to her personally so she would have to ring us up! Anyways we had a terrible experience and will definitely NOT be going back! Besides there's several other places in Paso that offer Sunday Brunch with MUCH better service and actual food in their trays at the...
