Read moreI want to preface my comments by sharing that I did reach out to this store directly on their portal. They did not reply, thus my post today. My wife visited with friends last week. She generously asked if I would like her to pick up something for me. I made a mad dash to my laptop and found their portal. The menu promoted authentic Italian food. I love bruschetta and decided to get my feet wet. What I got was most definitely not Bruschetta. Traditional Italian bruschetta starts with crostini or another traditional Italian or French slice of a firm bread that is baked or charred. It is then topped with a slice of fresh mozzarella or perhaps another mild white Italian cheese. Next comes a tomato purée / “salsa” (lots of basil and garlic). Finally a drizzle of balsamic vinegar makes it perfect. Here is what I got: pizza crust brushed with something and diced tomatoes (which were ok, actually.). I would have happily paid $3 more legit bruschetta. If Elliotts can’t pull off that very minor miracle (which will result in increased sales), then update the menu to explain what the visitor is getting: the bruschetta equivalent of Kraft mac and cheese for pre-schoolers who like their “cheese” powdered.
A quick update: They did back with me eventually, stating they had been away, which is fine. They seemed appreciative of my notes and told me they are even going to use some of my suggestions to improve their bruschetta. Given that, I look forward to giving them another shot. I'm updating my review...
Read moreunfortunately their allergy accommodations have gone completely downhill and today was an extremely disappointing experience.
When offering gluten-free food and having been previously told at their opening that they use separate sauce and toppings, and follow a very strict gluten-free protocol… things have changed drastically. We watch the individuals not change gloves, using the same utensils and the ladle from the gluten pizzas straight onto to the gluten free crusts… no wiping down of the surfaces, when creating the gluten free street tacos handling gluten bread and then touching the tacos,
when I asked about it the general manager started to argue with me that the health department told him he didn’t have to change his gloves and that “I don’t mean to argue with you, but… you can’t cross contaminate by touching the gluten bread and then touching the gluten-free food “ VERY VERY CONCERNING
There is a serious disconnect between management offering gluten-free options and what is actually happening here. There is in fact a huge risk of cross-contamination even without taking the precautions such as gloves changing, wiping down surfaces and switching utensils… Such a blatantly disregard these basic steps to avoid allergy cross contamination, it was an extreme disappointment
Please spare yourself if you are a part of the celiac community or have a severe intolerance to gluten. The gluten-free food is unfortunately...
