The Sultan Bakery Saga: From Reno's Runaway Flight to Newark's Delicious Dilemma So, the story goes like this: a bunch of us buddies flew out of Reno, Nevada, for a conference. The flight timing? Get this: we took off from Reno at 6:00 PM (Pacific time) and landed with a thump at Newark Airport at 6:00 AM the next morning. Our collective state was one of absolute disaster: intense fatigue, a brutal case of jet lag, desperate need for sleep, and the rumble of starvation. We were all in the same sorry boat! Sleep Over Hunger: An Expensive Priority The verdict was in: sleep was a greater emergency than hunger. So, straight to the hotel we went. Since we desperately needed an early check-in, the hotel staff, bless their hearts, saw an opportunity and charged us a small fortune—a hefty sum of dollars! Well, what could we do? It was a "die-if-you-don't" situation, so the cash had to be forked over. After a few hours of that "precious" shut-eye, once we vaguely resembled human beings again, our Turkish friend piped up: "Listen up! If you want a phenomenal breakfast, let's head to the Paterson area. I know a spot that will soothe your soul!" Taking a Risk, Finding Sultan Artisan Bakery We friends share one glorious trait: we have no problem taking a risk when it comes to food! So, we agreed immediately and followed his lead. And just like that, we discovered Sultan Artisan Bakery! As you can clearly guess from the pictures, for an excellent breakfast in that area, there is simply no better place! It’s immaculate, the environment is friendly, and that flavorful Turkish breakfast... oof! They have all sorts of delicious bakery items, sweets, and the Turkish tea? Absolutely divine! We enjoyed every single moment we spent there (and paid for every single bite, by the way! This isn't some free sponsored post; we just genuinely loved it!). The Painful Price of Parking for Perfection But alas, every masterpiece has a flaw, right? Here, it’s the parking! The area is incredibly congested, and finding a spot is a war! You'll often see double parking on the streets. And you have to drive here as if you are driving in India! You never know who is going to pop out from where! And those parking meters... oh dear! They look like they're from the Stone Age! No app, no credit card option—they only run on quarters! But honestly, I swear: once you finally brave all those troubles and take your first bite of that spectacular breakfast at Sultan Bakery, all your complaints vanish as quickly as horns on a donkey's head! Now that you've conquered the Turkish breakfast scene in Newark, are you planning to find another "hidden gem" (a stunning restaurant) in the area, or are you ready to try a cuisine other...
Read moreI have been visiting Sultan Bakery Cafe mainly to buy pastries. My family and I especially love a particular cookie that my son enjoys, so we often stop by just for that. However, every single time we visit, there are always people smoking right in front of the entrance, watching and staring at those going in and out. Every time, I brush it off, get my cookies, and leave. This time was no different—once again, there were individuals smoking and observing every person entering or exiting, which was honestly quite irritating. The owner of this business needs to address this issue as it significantly impacts the customer experience.
Secondly, there was a small mix-up at the register. Along with my own bags, I accidentally picked up another customer's bag. I realized it within 10 seconds and immediately returned it to the counter. However, the way the manager and staff looked at me in that moment is something I won’t forget. Their stares made me feel as if I had taken the bag on purpose, and that was truly uncomfortable.
From what I can see, this business doesn’t seem to struggle with customer flow—people come and go, completing their purchases without much attention to customer service. However, the owner should be more mindful of this aspect. Even the smallest facial expression from an employee can make a customer feel uneasy.
For me, the two most important factors when choosing a place to shop are customer service and food quality. While the products here are good, the overall experience could be improved with better attention to these details.
I don’t plan on returning to this business, though I doubt that really...
Read moreWe have visited this location several times. However, this is the first time I feel an honest review needs to be given by a non-Arab, non- Turkish customer.
We aware that your customer based is quite diverse. The Indo-Pak community represents large purchase power within the Paterson area.
While America welcomes immigrants, we expect the immigrants to understand the laws of the land. Specially calling out the discrimination that we have experienced on several occasions at your Paterson location.
We have experienced everything from being seated in the corner to having other Turkish/ Arab customers to be served first for both dine in and take away orders. This has happened each and everytime we have visited.
This situation is extremely discriminatory and unappealing for your customers. As US born South Asain. The color of my skin should not matter especially when America welcomes people of ALL color, race, and religion without having any discrimination.
Please understand that, you are in America. The racist behavior is not tolerated. As a member of South Asian community, I want to make it clear that we represent a large amount of purchases made in the Paterson area. It would not be beneficial to your brand or community if this treatment continues with racial discrimination by your employees.
I request the owners to take notice to this review and to be aware that situation with be escalated with my South...
