This store is fantastic! It's nice to shop somewhere that the employees like being, as well - friendly and knowledgeable.
Expect a lot of people Fri/Sat (all day) and Sun (afternoon) - but even that's not a bad thing because it's then you'll find portable counters handing out free samples dotting the store.
Checkout wait times? Generally, not long. Are there lines? Peak business times, yes, of course. But they MOVE. Front end does a spot on job with staffing and it's truly a unicorn moment to find a bad checkout experience.
Prices are the lowest around. Period. I have multiple store's apps on my phone... but at this point they're just due diligence. You may find another store running an item or two on special for less occasionally but who wants to make extra stops to save less than you'll use in gas to do it for a nickel off one item?
Store-branded items are excellent quality and don't disappoint.
Privately held, US based (New York). They source numerous items (some things seasonally, of course) locally/regionally.
The Wegmans app is invaluable for planning and executing a list. It sorts your list into aisle locations, prices (AND nutritional info for most items). Specials and ecoupons transparently within the app make lower prices a breeze using the app. Expected total cost is listed at the bottom of the list. Exceptionally robust as apps go.
The tea/coffee counter, hot and cold prepared food bars, made to order sub counter, pizza shop (NY style that even my highly opinionated wife from Yonkers says is excellent) and in-store seating (located behind a sizable wine and beer area) means you can eat (for ~$10/lb or $3/slice) BEFORE you shop -always a good idea.
Fresh sushi, fish, meats, cheeses and bakery have sizable areas, a huge produce area (fresh and WELL maintained) on top of the usual grocery store canned/frozen/refrigerated/bulk rounds out a pleasant shopping...
Read moreThis is a fairly standard Wegman's, which is conveniently accessible in the Colonnade Shopping Center in State College. It is located in the same shopping center as Target, which is convenient for hitting both in the same trip. Wegmans is oftentimes so packed full of people that it can be frustrating. I highly recommend for introverts and night owls to go at night. It is a much more pleasant experience, but much of the ready-made food will no longer be available. Wegmans has excellent selection as far as cheeses and products labeled as being natural, organic, and gluten free. The options are there if you want them. There is a good selection of meat and fish as well, but I find it to be more expensive than other grocery stores in the State College area. This is one of the only places to get Jewish staples like Challah bread, or smoked white fish and whitefish salad for brunch. The Wegman's packaged lox and whitefish are expensive, so I'd only buy the whitefish (unless someone knows somewhere cheaper) and get packaged Nova Lox. The bagels are good if you get them fresh first thing in the morning. I have been disappointed with the produce on multiple occasions with produce going bad on me within a matter of one or two days. The produce can get pretty picked through during the day. I have tried their pre-ground coffee (bought on sale) and it was really good! If you usually buy Maxwell House or Folgers anyway, it is absolutely worth a try. Also, Halo Top seems to be cheaper than at other stores...
Read moreWanted to write this review a year ago but I wasn’t able to because of my PTSD from the incident happened here last year. A normal morning, I went to customer service to ask for some help. Somehow, the two staffs in customer service counter were mean and started to madly accuse me for what I didn’t do. After they escalated the issue, they call their supervisor and their supervisor threatened me that she will report me to the police and my employer because of some misunderstandings. Three of them yelled the whole time and didn’t even try to solve the problem. Luckily, the manager of this store is responsive and responsible. He apologized on behalf of that two employees and kept giving updates. However, No compensation in any way.
I was a very regular customer, at least twice a week and recommended this store to lots of my friends. I really enjoyed the Boston crème cake there. I stopped going there from that day. I could not take the pressure and trauma. It has been almost one year, I still need to go therapy sessions till today on a weekly basis, and on the way of slowly recovery.
All I want to say, No matter what the issue was, I should not be treated in this way, and so as other customers. I hope they train their employees better now. I also hope those two employees has been punished as they should be. And I sincerely hope I did not go to...
