If you only care about the food, not the price, portions, service, or location, you may like Holy Cow.
My main gripe with Holy Cow is the dollar to ice cream ratio. It’s way off. You pay nearly $2 more for a small and get half the ice cream (if you’re so lucky) you would at Richardsons, Cherry Farm, Treadwells, or Putnam Pantry. Is it that much better than other great local establishments? No. They can throw all the awards at you, but taste is subjective and I find other places to be as good or better.
Okay so the price and ratio are bad, but the workers are pleasant and provide great service right? Absolutely not. I have been three times, each time I am left feeling like I bothered them by asking any questions about their quirky flavors. Or god forbid ask to try one… The final straw was today though. They have 3 serving windows, and I made the unfortunate decision to get into line at window 3. I was accosted for trying to order at a “pickup window” (the online pickup sign was the next window over) and was told by a very smug employee to get in line at another window. So I did, and was met with a server who barely acknowledged my family. Like, I am here trying to enjoy my evening and get some ice cream, why is everyone being so rude?
Sometimes people have bad days, I get it. But each visit this has not improved whatsoever.
The North Shore is blessed with a plethora of delicious ice cream. Anywhere you look you will find staples in the community with devout followings. I just don’t think Holy Cow does anything particularly better than any other ice cream place, plus they charge significantly more, and the servers are not pleasant. I’d take your money elsewhere (and get way more ice cream for...
Read moreUpdate: something happened to the top of these pints. I believe they got soft at some point and refroze causing the top to become somewhat watered down. I should have “dug deeper” but the product is so consistent it was shocking to have it be so different. With so much cost and quality cutting going on, the key lime ice cream having no key lime and not receiving a reply to my email, I incorrectly assessed you as another great business making poor choices. I apologize and stand corrected.

Been a 4 pint a week customer for a year until now. The extra butter cream is what set your product apart from all the other premium ice cream options. Now that you’ve decided to downgrade your product while passing it off as the same premium product you previously sold, I’m here to remind you how volatile customer loyalty is when selling a premium product at a premium price. Happy to pay more if the product is truly premium. The product I bought tonight was not premium and 4 flavors lacking the old quantity of butter cream is not an oversight. Hope it was worth losing my business and who knows how much more over what must be the most idiotic business decision I have seen since Coca-Cola tried a new formula. At least Coca-Cola had the intelligence and integrity not to hide it from their customers.
Ps: still waiting for a reply to that email I sent months ago regarding the Keylime ice cream having no actual keylime. A chef knows and the incident tonight supports my suspicion that deception is just part of your...
Read moreFOR GOD SAKE OWNER HAS TO WAKE UP! THE STAFF ARE THE WORSE I EVER DEALT IT. The ice cream is extraordinary tasteful and totally worth of the price, however the staff working at this shop are incredibly unprofessional, unguided, and incompetent. They’re pretty much a bunch of sluggish teenagers whom really hate their jobs, this is the impression you will have after being assisted by them. There is around 7,8 people "working" but you will only see 2,3 actually "getting their hands dirty" because the rest are just talking and running around. I've been at Holy Cow 7 times already and in every single visit I made they did something wrong at my order they have forget about the ice cream of my husband just giving mine and making him wait up to 10 minutes, they have charged us twice, switched the flavors, forgot toppings… all the time, pay attention inside the store for 5 minutes and you will see at least 3 of them throwing ice creams at the trash because they did something wrong, and last but not least most of them are rude and judgmental, they discriminate black and non-american citizens and don’t show patience to elder costumers if wasn’t for the REALLY BAD staff I would rate this ice cream shop 5 stars, I really hope the owner do something about it, put a adult manager to run the store or something, is just saddens me how they don’t care about the...
