We had Mother's day reservations for eight at 12:30. The restaurant wasn't busy yet, and our table(s) were in the front aisle: Two tables pushed together of slightly different heights so, with three seats per side, the middle person sat on the hump between the two tables. My friend and I, being gentlemen, sat at the aisle end, so our wives sat at the hump between the tables. They noticed it, but did not make a fuss. (So don't plan to eat in a party of over six people or someone will not have a good seat at the table.) They serve complementary 'House' Pickles, but they were very immature and not pickled enough. Taste was not bad, but not very pickle-like. At least they were crunchy. They don't offer complementary bread, so I ordered some. The rolls were cool and doughy inside - very under-baked.
Beverages: I ordered hot tea and my guests mostly ordered Sweet Tea or Cola. My Waiter brought me a simple mug of water with a thin lemon wedge, and later came with a tray of maybe 24 different types of tea, I'm no connoisseur, so I picked the first packet with a name I recognized. I opened the tea and into my mug, but the water was merely warm so didn't steep. I was only able to coax two drops of lemon juice as my wedge was old and dried out. My guests fared better with their lemon wedges. When I eventually caught my Waiter I told him my tea was disappointing and I ordered a diet coke (Coke-Zero he said).
Food: I had ordered the 'Cadillac' burger with fries; Medium and Beef. My Wife ordered Cedar Plank Salmon, 9 Ounce size while my friend's Wife ordered the same, but 7 Ounce size, and my friend ordered the Swiss and Mushroom Burger, Medium and Bison. Other guests ordered the Trout, Chicken Chopped Salad, and Fish Sandwich lunches. Our food took a bit of time, and was served all together, except my Wife's Salmon. The Waiter said it was coming shortly. (A bit surprising, as my friend's Wife had her salmon, and it looked a bit 'crispy' to me.) Nonetheless, everyone started their lunch and my Wife satiated her initial hunger with an under-baked, doughy, roll and shared my french fries. I waited for her salmon to be served before I indulged my burger hunger, but it took a long time: Over 15 minutes before her salmon appeared, and most of our guests were nearly finished by the time it arrived. Her Salmon was a nice portion - not the crispy block that my friend's Wife had. (I think they gave her the Sandwich portion instead of Plank Salmon.) But Wife's Broccoli was overcooked and gray, not the fresh green color of our friend's Wife's broccoli. My Wife's broccoli was old and overcooked. I tasted it and it was not good. My beef burger was well-done, not medium and my friend's bison burger was also well done, not medium. My friend said that it was Mother's day, so maybe they were busy but I still find it unacceptable for the kitchen to not get the orders right, serve them in a timely manner, and for the table service to be so poor. This is supposed to be their BUSINESS and they are not very good at it.
Summary: I do a lot of reviews and, generally, I give Servers and Waiters the benefit of the doubt because theirs is a pretty thankless job. But the service we received today was just plain poor. I'm a very generous tipper, but not today. As far as food goes, they are inconsistent and will serve undercooked and overcooked food without comment or apology. This tells me that the kitchen staff just don't care about consistence or quality. I surveyed my other guests and they were satisfied with their lunch and service, but my Wife and I will never come back. Our table bill was over $200 and some of us got the wrong fish, bad veggies, under-baked bread, overcooked meat, and warm-water tea. Because my other guests were satisfied with their lunch, I am being generous with three stars. For my Wife and myself, I give it only one star. I do not recommend this...
Read moreThis was the worst visit I’ve had to any Ted’s I’ve visited across the country. Came in with a family member while visiting the area from out of town. Wanted to introduce her to Ted’s as she’d never been. The service wasn’t even the main issue, although of concern. The issue was arguing with a “GM” who came over to deliver food with an apology. Speaks immediately to we will give you free this, compensate that….I tell him I don’t want anything for free. I offer my visit feedback in a polite way (which was your team needs to work together; because clearly they weren’t) and the guy just straight up gets defensive and starts arguing about how there’s not enough staff. Duh, you’re just proving my flipping point of the need to work together??!
If you’re going to subject me to an hour plus of waiting for a main entree to come out that the server forgot to ring in, then come to the table to make it right… at least have the decency to listen to the feedback of what I experienced in that time. I was extremely polite until his body language became defensive for no reason. The server then proceeds to say there is no bill when I ask for it so I can pay and exit the situation. This just made me even more dissatisfied because I came to your restaurant for a good COMPLETE meal and a decent experience, not an appetizer and one glass of tea for free and to look at your bison head on the wall for hours while waiting for the actual meal. Plus I just told you I didn’t want anything free, so are we even listening here??
Observing the service locals received during the whole debacle just proves this is not a visitor friendly establishment in the area. 10 out of 10 don’t recommend this one! I thought Ted’s would deliver honesty in their experience similar to the promise they make of their ingredients and preparations on their menu. If you don’t have enough staff then create a wait list, express the slower service up front, make the proper accommodations per traffic flow. Don't just get angry because you think you’re doing a good job and...
Read moreHaving been residents of Atlanta all our lives, we've seen Ted's come into existence. We've also been patrons of the now-defunct Aunt Fanny's Cabin, from where Ted's attained it's recipe for squash casserole (Howdy folks, what'll it be?) So last Wednesday evening we decided to go to Ted's for dinner, not having been there in some time. We were shocked.
Ordered medium rare, the bison burgers were hard pucks of protein. The broccoli smelled like lighter fluid had been poured on it, and the squash, apparently now cooked in individual ramekins, resembled nothing even close to it's former glory. It was basically squash mixed with bread crumbs and oil, and then overcooked to a dry consistency. In other words, every single thing we ordered, except for the wine and complimentary pickles, was not even edible.
We asked for the manager. After relating our displeasure, she asked, "Well is the wine okay?" We said, "Yes, the wine and the pickles are the best part of the meal," the irony being that both items are NOT MADE BY TED'S, but this was completely lost on the manager.
She offered one additional glass of wine and to have new burgers cooked. We took her up on this offer. The burgers were better, but we were told the squash can't be changed and "they hear that a lot about the broccoli." We told her it's a disgrace to associate the squash in any way to Aunt Fanny, as it insults her incredible recipe. She didn't care.
Basically, this evening was a lesson in current-day dining out. We get better food at home. We happen to have the recipe to Aunt Fanny's squash casserole, steaming some broccoli isn't difficult, and a burger on the Weber is better anyway. Sometimes though, a person wants to eat out and take it easy. THIS IS...
