Bayou Grill — Restaurant in Pearland

Stopped going after 7 yrs after a confounding experience with the manager/owner. I'd picked up a to-go order that turned out to be wrong. I called to ask and the cashier told me the manager doesn't allow them to do refunds. I returned to the restaurant with my food and asked to speak to the manager, who said he couldn't refund me because he prepared what was on the order ticket and kept insisting that I must've ordered wrong. As if it was impossible that they could've taken the order wrong. I finally got my refund but I was still confused as to why he was being so unnecessarily difficult. At most places, if your order is wrong, you return the food and they refund you. Simple. It's no big deal.

Months later, I picked up an order with my FIL. He adjusted something on his order. The (clearly newly hired) cashier fixed the ticket and the same owner came out to the front from the kitchen, aggressively asking the teenaged cashier what she was doing and why she didn't check the order. I can't remember if he insulted her or not, but he was being just really cruel and nasty to this kid working for him, who looked like she was about to cry. All for adding an item to the order. Finally, when she was bagging up the food, I asked the other cashier there for some sauce to go. As he was about to bring that over, the owner grabbed him and asked him why he doesn't see the girl bagging up the food and put the sauce cups in there. Extremely rude. If my FIL were not there, I'd said something because it was ridiculous. Nobody would stand their kid being talked down to and bossed around like that.

Besides that, the food is good save for some sides and such that seem to be heated up grocery store...

This place is seriously good! I was skeptical at first, but I usually am when trying a new place. The inside is clean and you seat yourself. I saw a bunch of pictures of burgers on the wall, and they looked pretty good. I decided to try one and I went with the Texas BBQ burger. My wife had the buffalo shrimp plate, which is not on the menu by the way but her friend told her to try it. My kids got a cheeseburger and a chicken tender plate. My burger suprised me when it came out. It had two fresh beef patties, bbq sauce, grilled onions, a very good bun, and i switched the cheese to cheddar. This was the best burger that I have had a restaurant in a long while. So juicy, flavorful, and huge. My wife's shrimp plate was excellent also. Fresh large grilled shrimp tossed in buffalo sauce with mixed grilled veggies and dirty rice. Wow, the shrimp were fantastic and I love the buffalo flavor. The veggies were so good too. Lastly, the chicken tender plate was truly huge. Judging by the way my kids gobbled it up makes me believe that is was also delicious. To top it off, the prices are very fair. My burger was $9 with fries, and my wife's shrimp plate was only $10. I will definitely be coming back here. I just wish that it was closer to me.

Update: I went back a week later and tried the avocado burger. Holy guacamole! I think I found my new favorite burger. They put what seemed like an entire avocado sliced up in this awesomeness. Must try!...

Service was poor and the food was below subpar. Visited with my husband as we were in that area. Walked in and seated ourselves. Server took out drink order, coke, raspberry tea and a water....never got the water. Ordered out appetizer and there was a slight wait. We were fine with that. Server came back to refill my husband's drink, still no water. We had to tell him that we were ready to order. When the food came out, everything was luke warm. Simple menu items like mashed potatoes with gravy, bacon cheddar cheese fries, coconut shrimp, dirty rice were all terrible. Would have expected that the server refill my drink while we're eating but never saw the server again. Even at the end when the large family left, he started cleaning the table instead of checking to see if we needed anything. I usually don't make assumptions based on situations but this did feel like because of our skin color, we were treated much much differently than the larger group of people that were there of the Caucasian race. If we're ever back in the Pearland area, we will never eat there again..1/10 do...
