Their motto is slowly but surely vanishing. The once great country cooking saying is definitely gone from this location at least. It all started as the waiter who was nice at first but when we requested a side to be exchanged when our food finally arrived she made a face. The food was really disappointing. The taste of the meal was bland. The portions were extremely reduced as opposed to what they use to be. They did not offer the bread rolls and muffins as they usually do & when we asked for them, the waiter advised they are only brought upon request. The service of the waiter was slow, therefore the food took a long time to come out. She only came to our table if I asked by raising my hand when she walked by to request that she refill our drinks. Our sides of Mac and cheese came cold and tasted like kraft from the box. Our mashed potatoes which are usually a really good & oversized portion where in the little cup in 1 scoop. Literally! The buttered corn came dry and didn't have any taste of butter at all. Lucky for us we had butter already on the table so I added 2 little tubs of it to make it taste like butter. My chicken fried steak was awful. First it was over fried and extra crunchy. It tasted like cardboard with no seasoning or flavor. The rice and gravy were too cold and watery. My husband and I were really looking forward to having a great country style meal after an extremely hard and busy work day but this time Kelly's was a disappointment. If anyone remembers that you use to pay at the register & that there someone would ask you "How was your experience today?" or "How was your meal ?" Well they no longer ask nor possibly care! Like I described before our experience sucked! If Mr. Kelly himself (RIP) or anyone of his family could read this post..... your parents would be disappointed on how the family's reputation is suffering. This use to be a great place to eat where the food was flavorful & bountiful and best of all we had it near us and we could get the same great food experience each & every time. Now if my husband & I want to go out to eat... it will certainly not be Kelly's. Just for us two our bill was $33. dollars plus the tip and best part we didn't eat it. We brought it home & gave my chicken fried steak to our dog because it was too...
Read moreDined at Kellys on 6/10/17. I will preface my comments by saying that my family and I decided to eat at Kellys for the first time based on the reviews we read. Well hopefully this review will help someone out one day.
Initially, we were extremely excited about the reviews based on the portion sizes they raved about. When we got there we looked around and the portions seemed to be on point. Let me back up a bit. When we walked in, we didnt even get a hello or anything. All we got was, you can sit where ever you want. Then they couldnt figure out who was going to be our server. We went through 3. So we move on with what we ordered. I got the grilled pork chops, my wife gets the meatloaf, my son gets the chicken fried chicken and my youngest the chili cheese fries. Oh yes, we asked for an appetizer but it was never ordered, no surprise. The bread that was brought out was hard, seriously. The cornbread not good. The rolls were bland. So we get our meals and the first thing I see are how small the pork chops were. These portions came from a piglet not a pig. What made it worse is that rhey were super dry. Again, for my sides no real flavoring to it. My wifes meatloaf, oh yes, not like what momma makes and thats what our server told us, he was right. Looked pressed and had no real flavoring to it. My older sons chicken fried chicken was dry as well. My youngest chili cheese fries were the only thing that came out good. I will say this about the server when we told him about my plate, he did not charge us for it. Thats with him talking to the manager. Surprisingly the manager DID NOT come to our table even though thats one of the review questions they ask - so that was a NO for that question. Kellys probably has a strong following and maybe we just went on a bad day but there is no way I can recommend this eating establishment to anyone, especially out of towners like us. The only reason I am giving one star is because my plate was removed...
Read moreKelly's has always been my families choice for our Sunday morning family breakfast. Food is always hot and served with pride. However, our experience today left us with disgust and to the point of our family never going back to the Pearland location. Where to start.......we arrived at 8:45 self seating which was wonderful as no line. Sat down and was greeted by a very pleasant waitress. We received our drinks around 9am and ordered our breakfast, 3 adults and 2 children. pleasant conversation with my kids and enjoying the company. Around 9:30 we started noticing that several other families around us were getting their orders (seated after us). At 9:45 the waitress brought my biscuit and gravy out and said out food would be out shortly. 10:00 rolls around and still no food. We were about ready to call it a day and leave but decided to give it a bit more time as we had already waited so long. 10:15 comes and we are finally getting our orders. I asked our waitress to warm up the gravy and the biscuit as it was stone cold. She returned within moments with a fresh piping hot biscuit and gravy which was amazing. (Keep in mind the place wasn't packed but it was busy.)
When our orders were finally delivered my sons order was somewhat close to what he had ordered, but the eggs were wrong, how can you screw up scrambled eggs, and was given sausage instead of bacon. My daughter's order was the only order correctly served as ordered. My eggs were so cold they were uneatable. Hash browns were good and at least warm, linked sausages were luke cold ( I hate cold food). My grandsons order wasn't even close. We decided not to say anything more at this point, as all we wanted to do was eat and leave. The whole time we were waiting, a lady come by only twice to ask if we wanted refills of coffee.
Worst experience we've ever had! We will not be coming back. I would give it a 1 star rating but the waitress was doing her best, she...
