MJ's Lounge — Restaurant in Pearland

This restaurant is one of the worst places to work, and the problems all start with the owner. He lies, manipulates, and talks recklessly, showing zero respect for his employees. Instead of treating staff like professionals, he screams at them like they’re children, creating a hostile and toxic work environment.

Pay is another nightmare. Checks are never on time — some employees get paid in cash, others by direct deposit, but it’s always late. Staff are forced to beg for the money they’ve already earned. It’s clear the owner is more interested in trying to game the system than running an honest, reliable business.

On top of that, he constantly fires loyal, hardworking employees without reason, only to call some of them back when the replacements he chose don’t work out. It’s unprofessional and chaotic, and it shows how little he values the people who keep the restaurant running.

The truth is, no restaurant can succeed when leadership is this dishonest and disrespectful. If you care about integrity, professionalism, and fair treatment of workers, I’d highly recommend avoiding this place. F.Y.I..... And let's not get started on the bugs in the kitchen, and the water that overflows all over the floor in the kitchen after washing the dishes. MJs!! I celebrated my 60th birthday and everything was on point. The owner Marvin (MJ), made sure my booked party was exactly the experience I wanted!! The lounge space was just enough for my group. We called it "The Red Room" and all the staff was on board.😉 I would like to thank Miss Kameron, our waitress & Miss China our bar tender for helping to keep my guests happy. Some even enjoyed the patio area which I appreciated as I do NOT like smoky areas. 🙂 The ambiance & atmosphere was great. No drama. Grown folks just having a good time. Musical selections by the DJ were on point. MJ continuously checked on me and accommodated any requests I had. The food was amazing and all my guests agreed. They especially liked the egg rolls and boudin balls. Thank you chef for taking care of us the way you did! They are a newer black owned establishment in Pearland area and they want to be successful. Working at this company has been a disappointing experience. Employees are not valued, management often overlooks feedback, and there is no clear path for advancement. The lack of organization and support has made it difficult to feel motivated. I would not recommend this workplace to others seeking a positive or professional environment. I was employed by MJ’s Lounge on July 28th and I’ve had to continuously wait to be compensated by the company. The owner is extremely unprofessional and disrespectful when being asked about pay. I’m facing eviction at apartment complex due to not receiving my pay that I’ve earned in a timely manner.
