Cocina Salgado — Restaurant in Pecos

My fiance and I ate here. The atmosphere is colorful and cheery but outdated.

I had the 3 shredded beef tacos in corn tortillas plate which was served with a healthy portion of rice and beans.

My fiance had the chicken asado plate which is also served with a healthy portion of rice and beans.

The food was great. We had to add salt and pepper to our food though because it didn't taste as if it had any, including the rice and beans which was fine.

The "hot sauce" was okay. It was bland so we added salt and pepper and it was edible. It did have a bit of a kick but not enough so, I asked our waitress if they had a hotter sauce. She came back with a bowl full of Jalapeños that had been blended up. No spices or salt and pepper. That was a disappointment.

By the time we left the place was packed!

The reason I gave it 2 stars was due to the s lervice we received while dining in. I had to get up and ask for more tea because there is only 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant.

Upon paying, I thanked the cashier who was also our waitress and told her that it was the best Mexican food we had since we've been in Texas and she flat out ignored me. It upset me and that's why they get 2 stars.

I walk in and stand for a minute before having to approach a waitress. She says she'll seat me and I go to sit in one of the two waiting seats. Five minutes later a couple comes in, waves at another waitress and less than a minute later they're seated, while I'm still waiting for a table. Approaching the waitress about my concern, she gets huffy and says she'll help me in a minute. I turned on my heels and left. I get that places like this aren't hurting for clientele, but to be treated like I was is unacceptable. Once upon a time, nearly four years ago they were a decent haunt to get mediocre Mexican food, but now I'll never know, except, perhaps, you the reader debating on whether to stand around and get served second to a local. Cocina Salgado's is the best! I run CTG Express Lube right next door, and for the past 8 years, my employees and I have been eating here almost every day. That alone should tell you how amazing this place is!

The food is always fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Their Chili Verde & Asado is hands down the best I have ever had—no one else comes close! The portions are generous, and the quality is consistently top-notch.

Beyond the incredible food, the staff is awesome. They’re friendly, welcoming, and always provide outstanding service. It truly feels like home when we walk in.
