review based on one experience on a specific day. Pody’s came to my attention through a Texas Monthly article. Many great reviews but we left disappointed I’m afraid. we came here early to avoid missing out on any options-about 5th in line. Got busy really quick. Staff taking all the expected Covid precautions. Ordered a three meat plate to share with the wife. Brisket, sausage, and turkey with double potato salad side. The brisket had a lovely smoke ring and well rendered fat. But the texture was overly soft and the bark was mushy from what was possibly condensation during holding. This combo was not to our liking. The flavor was nice and blended well with the sauce but overall disappointing. The sausage was bland by standards set at other Texas joints, just a little black pepper. Good not great. The turkey was really the most disappointing item. Light, light on any smoke flavor and I strongly feel this was a precooked piece of food service turkey placed in the smoker for a short time. Not what I expected. I worked in different aspects of the food/meat industry for almost 30 years and this had no resemblance to a typical raw turkey breast as you might see on a Thanksgiving table in texture or flavor. Possibly a supply difficulty or a Covid cost saving measure. That’s somewhat understandable but if it’s not what you would normally be serving, best to remove from the menu until better options available. We did like the potato salad very much and the sauce had a tasty flavor profile. The people who own and run Pody’s are obviously doing all they can to put good Q out there but what we had on our visit didn’t live up to Top 50 in Texas...
Read morePody’s BBQ in Pecos, Texas, was hands-down the best barbecue we had during our time in the Lone Star State—and that’s saying a lot. From the moment we walked up and smelled the smoker working its magic, we knew we were in for something special.
The brisket was incredibly tender with just the right amount of smoke, and the ribs practically fell off the bone. Every bite was rich with flavor and clearly made with pride and experience. The sides were just as satisfying, rounding out a classic Texas BBQ experience that hit all the right notes.
Service was fast and friendly, and the casual setup let the food do all the talking. Whether you're passing through Pecos or planning a detour just for the meal, Pody’s is worth it. Absolutely unforgettable and worthy of every bit of praise it gets.

Read moreHola y'all. There was a lot of hype about this establishment upon my arrival to my hometown. Go Eagles! At first glance and welcoming, the restaurant is rather compact and suffocating with patrons. But what Pody's lack in square footage, it makes up for with hospitality and, best of all, deliciousness. I ordered the 2 meat plate with two sides and sweat tea to wash away my sins. The brisket: flavorful, minimal fat, and WHERE HAS THIS BEEN MY ENTIRE LIFE?!? The sausage: it was alright, but not noteworthy. The BBQ beans: they did add favor to the meal, but it wasn't the best beans I've had. The chili cheese hominy: If you like menudo and queso, you're gonna like this beautiful combination too. The sweat tea: Refreshing and sweet, but luckily the sugar ain't too overwhelming.
Great place for lunch, but get there quick! I gives reason to much praise this BBQ joint...
