"If you ask me what brunch at Mashies is, then I can only assume from your cavalier attitude that you have yet to partake in the wonderment that is Mashies! Let me enlighten you. What happens is the One True God grows and harvest this food on trees and in the ground of the Elysian Fields using a heretofore unused incantation. He then proceeds to magically send this food down to the kitchen where a fine culinary expert prepares it for its finial journey, the fortunate consumer. As you proceed to ingest this finery in the vain hope that your obviously overmatched taste buds can somehow grasp the delectable intricacies it is suddenly faced with…BOOM, Is that egg? Why yes it is, and bacon, yes it is, sausage as well?….But wait-they didn't add... yes they did, yes they did indeed. They added LUNCH FOOD. And then, then my friends, they place it all in a sumptuous line on tables for your convenience! As your taste buds try to process that amazing piece of information, IT hits them...the orange sliced mimosa! It announces itself with a burst of orangey, confectionery, grandiosity the likes of which your palate has never seen…..In other words this place it amazing! To say I like it would be an understatement, this place is amazing….If you yet to try it, your...
Read moreWe have eaten at Mashies(Sunset Hills now) for years & always had great meals. Tonight we brought 2 other couples with us & ate on the patio. Unfortunately, our dining experience we NOT good. Several of us thought we might order the prime rib but we wanted horseradish with it but the waitress had never heard of horseradish & was sure that the kitchen did not have that.(so we didnt order it-not sure if she actually checked or not)I ordered the sirloin medium rare, but after taking my order, she came back about 10 minutes later & told me that they were out of sirloin & they would substitute a ribeye. I agreed & the food was served several minutes later. The steak was well done(no pink at all)& there was no way it had been cooked after I agreed to the other cut. I sent it back & ordered a burger. My husband ordered the cod & it was undercooked. The rest of our party had either under/overcooked food or was disappointed in her choice(blue steak salad-only iceberg lettace & a smattering of steak for $17!!) My husband & another couple had been to your restaurant recently when Backstreet played & had come out on a Thursday, ate & played Bingo-fun nights so hopefully tonight will not be the norm. The waitress was Ok & tried to make...

Corey Campbell, owner of Sunset Hills Eatery, took to Facebook after noticing the extreme temperature drops coming to Central Illinois, and seeing the Salvation Army was becoming limited on space. Campbell wanted to see what his community thought of helping the unhoused.
After a large response of community members backing his idea, the post being shared over 1500 times, Campbell purchased enough rooms to keep over 40 unhoused individuals warm, including three pregnant women. He was also able to have over 20 meals delivered to an encampment in Pekin, known as Tent City, and pay for heating services to be repaired to the homes of three families. “I think as a restaurant owner, I’ve learned the importance of community support. Right, and our ability to give back and the voice that we have with so many people they follow our pages, our social media pages.” Campbell said.
Campbell says that he wants to use this experience to learn new ways to direct people to get the...
