The Parlor Pizza and Ice Cream Company — Restaurant in Pell City

When I do reviews it's usually positive but today was the last straw. We have been in there a handful of times. The first time was pleasant I will admit, but the second time we went in there...they had been advertising for a while that they give a free scoop for good grades. My daughter was ecstatic, she is an A student and was told by her teacher to go to JnR's. So we went that afternoon after school, and the lady so rudely said, "we don't do that anymore, there wasn't enough participation so we don't do that anymore with the most sour look on her face. My daughter's face just fell. Of course I still got her ice cream and we left. So I was like okay so I chalked it up to maybe she was having a bad day, and I gave her a pass.

Then my husband goes in there on a Friday which I believe are 11-7pm, he goes in about 3:30 to grab a couple of scoops, he said, they seemed pretty rude, had bad attitudes, and he felt they were pushing him out the door. He sat down at the booth to eat his ice cream and the whole time he felt rushed like they didn't want him there. So he grabbed his cup and left, yet they're open til 7pm.

So fast forward to today, I picked up my daughter and her bestie from school, and they wanted ice cream before our trip to the park. So myself, my oldest daughter, my youngest and her friend, go inside to figure out what ice cream we all wanted. Her friend never tried many flavors so her safe choice was vanilla and she wanted to know how big the cups were. Because we all know cups come in different sizes like small, medium, and large and so do cones...she proceeded to ask the tall man at the counter, " how big are the cups?" He fired back with, " I don't know, cups they are the size of the cone." Waving his arms around like it was such a big imposition that a small child asked a valid question!?!? I was on the phone with my husband and had to let him go, because everything in my being wanted to snap back at him because what was the point in making her feel stupid for asking a question?!? A valid one at that. I turned my cheek, best I could, not to cause a scene, and pointed to the plastic cup near the cooler saying, sweetie this is the size of the cup. The same woman was there from our first encounter and she just had this look of annoyance on her face when we checked out. If you're gonna work with the public and ESPECIALLY children, don't make them feel stupid for asking questions valid or not. They get excited to go to the ice cream store, it's an experience for them, as it is for everyone. Don't cock an attitude either, she was sad after we left. Explaining to me that she had never been there and didn't know if there were different sizes or not. My oldest looked at me and said yeah, mom he was very rude about it. I got angry from how he handled it with her. Do us all a favor and be respectful of others and ESPECIALLY children, they are impressionable and curious. Don't rain on their parade. And if you continue this behavior towards your patrons they won't come back. I have two little girls that want to go somewhere else for ice cream from now on. And that's sad because we aim to support our local businesses in our city, but that behavior will not be...

My family and I have been here probably 6-7 times over the past year. I have really wanted to like this place, but we'll more than likely not be back.

I love the shop itself. Lots of flavors, add ons, the general look, and the woman working there has always been very polite and welcoming. However, the downfall of this place (and reading from the other comments, I know I'm not alone) will be the man that works there. After many times going in, he has never been welcoming. He seems irritated majority of the time and after two rude incidents with family from out of town, it was the final straw. One of them being towards my 8 year old niece who he couldn't hear speaking and was snippy towards and then again towards my mother who asked for a waffle bowl and he says to the woman "does it look like we have any" as he walks in back to get more. It's an ice cream shop and you'd expect the employees to be very friendly seeing as children are typically the target audience. But overall, this man shouldn't be working with the public. If there's something he could do behind the scenes, you'd be better off. Again, really wanted to like this place and we love to support small businesses, but unfortunately we get better service at DQ down the street and would rather go somewhere we feel welcomed. Nothing about writing a negative review brings me joy but I just can’t not say something. I have stopped in several times this year ( 5-6) and every single time the male owner is the rudest person ever. When I walk in and see him, I immediately feel like I have to walk on eggshells. He is so cut and dry and acts annoyed and bothered by my presence . I am not sure what he has going on in his life but he needs a different job instead of dealing with people. Today, he literally me feel so stupid over which cone I wanted ( I didn't hear him say chocolate or vanilla)and then my punishment was he handed it to me without a napkin/ gloves on and I kid you not, caramel was dripping all over the floor and the counter. I almost refused it and asked for my 6.87 back. The lady owner was kind though and got me some napkins. He apparently did not get the memo that without customers there would be no jobs. I’ve read the other reviews and I see it’s not just me. They only respond to the positive ones. I feel sorry for the woman, he is going to cost her the business. For the above reasons, I will not be back here. Friday’s are my ice cream days when I’m working in Pell City so I’m bummed.
