I have patronized this amazing bakery since the 60's & it has numerous choices of fresh baked yummy treats, imported Dutch gift items & such a rich gem on the south side of the town square, not to be missed! My most recent visit was on Saturday 05/19/23 @ 7:30 am. There was a short line of people in line ahead of me with approximately a 15 minute wait to be served by Diana, who greeted everyone with a beautiful smile, was friendly, pleasant, kind, skilled, engaging & extremely efficient! I had a few questions in filling my lengthy order & she was awesome in sharing what some of the most favorites & best sellers were. Through the years ownership has changed a few time's, with minor tweaks as necessary. If you have never experienced this wonderful opportunity for high quality bakery items & many other products, be sure to take the time to stop in, if your in the area. They also have another location in Oskaloosa also. If you can't physically make it they can accommodate orders placed over the phone. Be sure you plan in advance accordingly for your phone orders. I always enjoy the experience of visiting downtown Pella & stopping at several local businesses for meats, cheeses, coffee, gifts & books. Friendly people & relaxing to stop & have coffee & a snack or meal. If your wanting to bring back several pershiables, bring a cooler & ice! Kudos "een pluim verdienen to the owners & the entire team for all your efforts! I highly recommend you stop in to enjoy all they have to offer! Be sure & take time to visit other wonderful businesses in the...

Every time we camp at Lake Red Rock, my family will always drive into Pella to stop at the Bakery and the Meat Market. I have to say this year the Bakery was very disappointing. Worst service ever in all my 40 years of going to this Bakery. They only have kids working at the counters now, which write down your order, fill your order, and then ring it up. You would think when they write down the order you gave them, you would get what you pay for. I specifically ordered the white chocolate macadamia cookies for my husband. When we walked back to the vehicle to snag a little treat on the drive back, I found molasses cookies in my box instead. Totally different cookie!!! Since we hadnt left yet, I walked back over to the door where another teenager was working to ask if she could exchange my cookies for the ones I had ordered. She asked me to go to the back of the line, after I had already stood in that line once, and waited for over an hour the first time. Now she wants me to stand in the line again to fix my order that they screwed up. She wouldn't take the cookies out of my box, nor refund my money. So very disappointed in these teenagers working at the Bakery. I wont be going back anytime soon after there inconsiderateness, and wouldnt even try to fix the problem. She wasnt even able to let me talk to a manager about the situation. So my cookies were left on the doorstep, and I was out the money for...

I found Jaarsma years ago on a whim and instantly fell in love and have made the hour drive to Pella on numerous occassions since. The bakery has beautiful cookies and pastries and I enjoy spending time looking around the store. I have never had an issue with the products and that will be what keeps bringing me back (the puff pillows and Andre's almond filled cookies are fantastic). However, with COVID, they have you moving through the store like cattle and there was immense pressure to move quickly, despite being with a group of people who are from out of state that would have enjoyed more time to freely move around the counter space and browse all options. The teenager who checked us out today seemed to be irritable and lack lnowledge of the delicacy of some of the items, as she precariously bagged our large order and piled heavy items on top of delicate and light items, instead of boxing them up. When I drove the hour back home, I realized that many of my items were broken into bits or smashed and a mess. When I called to encourage them to use boxes in the future to prevent this for other customers, the employee sounded as though they had better things to do and did not respond in an appropriate manner that showed any care for customer service. So, if you go, and please do, ask for a box instead of bags for...

I have always wanted to stop in for baked goods, but I am usually only in town during the Tulip festival and the line is ridiculous. We stopped in at 11 am on a random Friday morning and there was still a line, so this place must be good!! There are plenty of people working here to keep the line moving at a good pace, and they all seem friendly and helpful. Initially we only went in for dutch letters, but everything looked so good, we also ended up getting blueberry cream puffs, almond macaroons, white chocolate covered pretzels, almond stuffed cookies, and some other almond pastry that I forgot the name. They have such a large selection of baked goods that it made it hard to decide. Needless to say I should have had lunch before stopping in here, but I cannot wait to try all of the goodies!!

I am so glad we waited in line at Jaarsma Bakery. The line zigzagged round the shop all the way from the entrance, but it was worth it. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to see what they had and be pressured to order quickly, but that wasn’t the case at all. When it was my turn, the guy behind the counter helped me identify the baked goods filled with marzipan. I knew I wanted two Dutch Letters, but landed up also getting the Andres Almond Filled Butter Cookie and an Almond Tart. Everything from here was delicious and I wish we stayed closer… although that would be dangerous. The Dutch Letters were the best I’ve had so far, and at home with a cup of tea, the Almond Tart was my favourite.
