We had originally booked two rooms, our daughter went into preterm labor and had to cancel their trip, for obvious reasons. We called 72 hours in advance to let them know we wouldn’t need the room, to give them time to sell the room to someone else. Their published website says that their cancellation policy is 48 hours. The nice woman who took the call told us no different. |Upon check in the younger girl tells me my total for the weekend was 1300$. I said that’s 2 rooms and we cancelled. Her response was “Noni said to bill you anyway.” I explained that we had called and gave 72 hours notice and that it was a health issue (baby) that couldn’t be avoided. She gave us the key for the room and when I went to the room it was the king bed, we had our granddaughter so we needed the queens. My husband went back down to get the other room key, and a man was inquiring about a room and my husband says “here. I have a room and here’s the key.” She immediately tells the man that since we had the key the room was “dirty”. She said the hotel was booked and they couldn’t sell our other room in time so that’s why we had to pay for it. Obviously a lie. That night my husband asked a worker if they were booked and he said no that they had 4 rooms left. They were just trying to screw us to get the money for the room not honoring their cancellation policy. |Throughout the weekend the front desk treated us horribly. It completely ruined our trip. I didn’t mention we have been booking here for the past 8 years. |Upon check out I had the pleasure of Noni. I was absolutely calm until I explained my daughter having a preemie baby and her reply was “THAT’S NOT MY PROBLEM”. She and her sidekick were insipid and hateful. I explained that if they changed policy for Nationals weekend it needed posted and we should have been informed when we called. It was absolutely horrible. She told me “the Super 8 will be happy to have you”. All because I wouldn’t be bullied by this rat faced woman. |The owners really need to evaluate the quality of staff they have. I own my own business and customer retention and relationships is everything. I would fire any one of my employees who acted like these two. I lost it and left them with a serious “go eff yourselves “ only after I had been ganged up on with their insults and hatefulness. Until they change mangers and help we will take our business to Oskaloosa. I’m sure the local business owners will appreciate Noni’s comments as they depend on tourism for their survival. The amount of money we spent locally was a lot. We brought friends who live close to Pella. We won’t do it again. I’m sure the Super 8 will appreciate my...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay until the very end. The room was large and the towels were some of the softest I have ever felt. The bed was comfortable and the air worked really well, even with the high temperatures outside. The staff was kind and check in was easy. When we were getting ready to leave our third floor room, my husband went down the elevator first to get the car. I got in the elevator a few minutes later and the elevator door closed. I pushed the button for the first floor and nothing happened. I tried the second floor button and the elevator did not move. When I hit the third floor button, a loud fire alarm began to sound inside the elevator. It was deafening. I called the front desk and they contacted the fire department and the elevator company. Long story short, I was stuck in the elevator for right around 20 minutes with the alarm going off the entire time and no air flow. The staff along with my husband and a police officer were able to get the door open. The fire department never came (even though they are located right next door). The staff gave us waters and apologized but there was no form of compensation given. The staff did say that they had issues with the elevator prior to...
