I met my perfect pizza here, but that's farther ahead in the review.

Greeted by the owner upon arrival at 645 on Wednesday night. The place was packed. I was seated within 5 minutes though. The place is deceptive, it look smallish until you realize it goes WAY back and around the corner and up. I was seating in the middle of the action, right outside the wait station. That was fun getting to see the wheels in motion.

Menu of appetizers, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, pastas, Greek specialities, and more. I enjoy having a bunch of options, yet all on a 2 sided menu. Not so many choices that I am overwhelmed.

Chose a side salad with creamy parm garlic dressing, onion rings, and a pizza with Canadian bacon, red onion, sausage, green olives. Dressing super good. Salad basic. Onion rings thick cut (I had asked and was told they were a mix of thick and thin- they were definitely thick). They were fine, I prefer thin. Pizza =WOW!!!! Best. Ever. Thin yet chewy crust, lots of toppings, just right amount of sauce and cheese. Piping hot.

Server was chatty. That's okay. She was probably thinking a single dinner wanted the convo. The staff in general was working like a well oiled machine. I mean, they were PACKED. Owner and his family all hands on deck. Love seeing that.

My total which was easily enough for 2 or 3 people was $35. I tipped $10 cause my server really tried to engage me.

Bringing the family back for my...

Having graduated from Pella High decades ago, I know the old George's Pizza from when it was across the street and had a cozy pizza house atmosphere. I stopped through Pella this July and was horrified at the dim, claustrophobic, unimaginative, oppressive ambience. (Food was decent. This is all about atmosphere.)

George's is still obviously a local favorite, but it could do SO MUCH BETTER by its Pella clientele and its location in the heart of the touristy Dutch-front downtown. George, I appreciate you, but for everyone's good, please hire a good interior decorator and restore some of that warm, cozy feeling that has been lost. This is an INTERVENTION!

There is no Greek content. There is not even any DUTCH content. Your restaurant looks like a one-lightbulb warehouse under construction, with glum patrons wedged into high school cafeteria-like tables. One of the most diner-unfriendly restaurant decors I've seen anywhere. For the good of Pella and the Chamber of Commerce, please redecorate! (And raise the ceiling so a 6'2" man can...

Horrible service. Rude employees. The food is over priced and not worth it. Fake chicken, burnt fries, rotten lettuce (all you get is lettuce, no cheese nothing). The tables are sticky and gross. We both felt sick after leaving. The only way this place has 4 stars, is from the town people, absolutely no way it’s a 4 star. Only one refill on your soda, and you pay extra for condiments even when you order chicken strips, no sauce is included. No one greeted us when we walked in, we just stood there listening to the staff talking and giving us dirty looks. They finally sat us right by the revolving kitchen door and dirty dish stand, so the whole time you can’t hear and have to sit by the dirty dishes and trash, servers putting trash away as your trying to eat. Flies everywhere. Rip off, and not “close” to the trash, it’s literally within in arms reach. Disgusting and disappointing. The pizza is usually good, but...

We went with a group of six and were seated quickly on a Friday night. The good: There are several pizzas that reflect Pella's unique heritage. The pizza was good--a little bland--but good. Prices are very reasonable. The not so great: Once served, we didn't see our waitress again, we had to find someone for refills and again to order more. Some of the hard rock music seemed more for anger therapy than a family restaurant. If you like beer, choices are very limited--one local bottled beer among them.

Staff was very pleasant, helpful and efficient. Our pizza (I forgot the name of it, but what most places would call a deluxe or supreme) was loaded with fresh, tasty toppings. It was very busy on a Wednesday night, which is always a good sign. It was noisy and a challenge to hear. We were seated toward the middle of the restaurant which was like a hallway and there was not much decor to speak of. If I lived in this area, I would eat here often. George's is a real winner in my book.
