The summer roll is as refreshing as it sounds with generous vermicilli, good and clean pork and shrimp, generous lettuce for crunch and the mint leaves give a nice accent. Perfect amount of sauce for the two rolls.
Roasted quail comes with a saucer of salt, msg, and pepper where you squeeze limes they provide into it to become a sauce dip for the quail. It's a nice touch of added flavor if not a lil too salty. I think it would be interesting to try it with fish sauce and lime.
Bo Kho is just a classic and they allow you to substitute the noodles with rice, which is nice. I'll check next time if they have bread as a substitute too 'cause that would be lovely.
Now, with the pho there is now admittedly less beef slices and noodles than before. It's still more than what you normally get in central jersey though so that's saying something. Plus they offer two sizes. Noodles are stuck together and so need to be spread apart before consuming. May seem a lil undercooked at first but the temp of the soup will perfect it. Broth has a surface that glistens. It's light and clean but still has body and an enconpassing presence that is a nice herby lemongrass flavor. Brother has mentioned the strength of flavor this time around is not as strong as before.
Service is also fantastic. Dropped my chopsticks and someone picked them up before I could get to them. Guidance was provided with the roasted quail sauce. When the server accidentally tapped the menu on my glass of water, he called someone to replace it. Unecessary but wow, very considerate.
Tea given is jasmine, a lovely find that sets them apart from others serving cheaper pu er or black tea. It also looks like they offer hotpot now.
Thai Son is among the best Vietnamese restaurants for me. Left happy, warm and...
Read moreThis is vietnamese restaurant but obviously the primart reason you would go to Thai Son would be for their Pho. For people who do not know what Pho is, it is just a beef noodle soup with a very clear and flavorful broth. The Pho that I had here was my first so I can't compare it to much and yet I absolutely loved how it was. The broth was amazingly tasty with a bit of sweetness and good fat proportions. The rice noodles where surprisingly cooked to perfection being in Al dente, perfectly firm and chewy while retaining a soft feeling in the mouth. Whil I haven't Pho anywhere else in my life I can definitely say that this must be one of the best ones and deserves its recognition because I can indeed compare it to other noodle soups.
The service was like when you to a fancy restaurant and the staff never smiles and takes their job really seriously but do their job to their best of their ability. Which in my opinion is not the most comforting service but definitely a very non-intrusive and very neutral. The Pho I had was $8.50 and I did not even finish it and trust me I eat a lot if this filled me up and I left some then the portions are really big for a very good price.
Overall my experience in this restaurant was awesome I hope to come here again and receive the same treatment and great food...
Read moreI often go to restaurants, and this has simply been a thrilling experience. First, the food. I didn't go into depth of the choices, but there were plenty; several pages worth. I personally got Grilled pork Pho, and I cannot go without saying I'll never regret eating it. It's a large bowl, I'll give it that, and the pork is great. Then, the service. There isn't much to say. Great staff, and if a glass of water is noticed empty, you can bet you'll find an employee filling it back up again. Most notable, I am finished eating my food, and offered popcorn and chocolate-covered pretzels. This day could hardly get any better. Atmosphere is great. It's visually appealing, and while you're waiting for food (which hardly takes any time), TVs mounted on the walls allow you to watch some cooking processes. Beyond this strange idolization, there is a varnished wood panel on the walls, fish statue, I can assume of glass, vases, and a special guest room you can rent. I even got to go there my very first day, of which I didn't even pay to get (it was a family get-together, and we had a lot of people with us). Give this place a shot, and I hope you feel the same about this...
