Some of the best Mexican food in Illinois PERIOD. I've been far and wide, particularly in Mexico. The dishes are very reminiscent of the Oxacan traditional cuisine. In particular, the enchiladas and chilaquiles (if they're available). The ceviche is excellent too. Very traditional and similar to those found on the west coast of Mexico, especially in the state of Jalisco. And then there's the tequila selection. Truly a cut above everyone else in the area. It puts a lot of high dollar restaurants, even in the Chicago area, to shame. With a name like casa agave, I wouldn't except anything less. The bartender, Natalie, is a cutie too. However, the value for money just wasn’t there. Portion sizes were disappointingly small. I ordered the taco plate, which came with just three small tacos for $18, and no rice or beans on the side. We ended up ordering a side of rice, which arrived in a tiny ramekin—about the size of a side of ranch—for an additional $5. Needless to say, we left still hungry.
