Time to get jalapeno this blog post.

On a quest to seemingly try every restaurant in the Peoria area, it was only a matter of time before I stopped in at Jalapenos. Now, I’ve heard about this place many times from many different people. Everyone raved about how good it was and how it quenched your hunger for Mexican food. My friend Matt and I were just about to find out if it lived up to the hype or not.

But first, I needed to drive us there. Or at least attempt to drive us there. My mental map on where this was located ended up getting crossed with another place in another shopping center in Peoria. What happened is I ended up driving us to the wrong place. Seeing as I was fairly hungry, this made me rather annoyed at myself. Once I punched in the address and arrived at the proper spot, I was in a better mood.

The inside of Jalapenos is your standard Mexican restaurant. If you don’t know what that is, let me tell ya. Think of your typical restaurant, but with Mexican music playing… things on the menu that you will horribly butcher the name of… heavy use of green, white, and red after their national flag… cultural paintings and decor spread throughout. That’s pretty typical of the Mexican places I’ve been to and Jalapenos was no different. Some lean a bit heavier in to the cultural side of things, most places will make you feel like you stepped in to a restaurante in an actual city in Mexico.

The lunch rush must’ve just passed as it wasn’t terribly too crowded but also not empty. Matt and I quickly grabbed the menus from in front of us and started checking out what the options were. I knew I wanted a big burrito. Maybe even one smothered in queso. My eyes were drawn to the Steak and Cheese burrito, if my memory serves me right. Everything about it sounded great, so that is what I ordered.

Matt and I munched on some chips and salsa while we waited for our food to come out. As I’ve grown to learn about these Mexican restaurants, the food takes no time at all to cook and reach our table. Our waiter carried the food out with some mittens on due to how hot the plates were from the food. He slid my burrito in front of me and I was slightly repulsed at the sight of it. It looked like a burrito covered in brown juice and topped with shredded cheese. But, I don’t let looks deceive me.

There is just no way anyone can pick one of these burritos up and eat it with their hands. You are pretty much required to use a fork and knife to eat it. I actually prefer it that way because I would make a terrible mess and drop the contents of said burrito all over my plate.

Digging in, I knew that the looks were deceiving. This was just what a hangry me needed. Each bite was full of flavor without one ingredient overpowering the others. While the cheese topping was shredded and not the poured over that I prefer (that may have just been my fault for not reading the menu in my hungry haste), it was still delectable.

Jalapenos definitely did it’s part to not only fill me up but live up to the hype that so many people raved on about. It was really good and while not something I would go out of my way to get, I would gladly come here with friends/family for...

The shells on my tacos were terrible The mild salsa was way too hot The restaurant was too hot and the margaritas for to weak.. I am editing my review due to the comments from the restaurant they had excuses for all the complaints mild salsa that we asked for was not mild salsa so that is on the server side how is we to know they had brought the wrong thing when it was the first time in as far as the restaurant being hot it was not a hot and humid day that we were there and even if it would have been they should have adjusted their air conditioning to satisfy a customer and make them want to come back as far as the margaritas there was no excuse there I would highly suggest no one go there they are not too accommodated it definitely don't care about what a customer thinks just about making excuses for not being a good restaurant they were the worst restaurant I have been to and a very long time I just didn't want to state that but now let it be known buy review is going down to one star and I think I will put a post about it on my Facebook I think more people need to know that there is much better places to eat Mexican...

We ordered the mini chimis and cheese dip as an app. After 10 min i asked the server if we could get our dip she forgot it. Our chimis came out with the food. We got the arroz con pollo with no salsa, steak yukatan and a side of beans. We had to send the arroz con pollo back because it had salsa on it. The side of beans were ice cold. The chicken and steak on our meals had no seasoning and no flavor at all. Took forever to get our servers attention everytime we needed something because she was too busy talking to her coworkers. When she did come over she seemed annoyed everytime. And it was for simple things she should have brought us anyway like napkins, salt, drink refills. When we got our bill we were overcharged and we had to have our bill fixed. The lady was annoyed and asked if i needed it explained the second time she brought it to me because i was looking it over to make sure it was correct this time. Overall not a good place to go for dinner. We...

I give 3 stars. Only because the service is lacking big time. The food is 5 stars. We waited 10 minutes before anyone even came to take a drink order, and that was after I went and got someone. I had to go find someone to get silverware after our food sat for 5 minutes once it came out. It seems like they're too cheap to have enough people staffed on a daily basis. The staff looked very upset as well. It's really too bad, because the food is the best Mexican food in Peoria. I've been there twice, and it's been the same both times.

A+ service and with attentive servers! Clean and family friendly atmosphere! The food is delicious and flavorful, emphasis seen on plating as well! Also, great drink specials going on regularly! Perks of indoor as well as outdoor seating.. yayy summertime! **Heaters in the colder months for a little cool weather coziness. Also any issues with service are handled quickly, professionally, and efficiently. I give this a 5-star rating, keep up the great work!! (Grand applause)
