For a good sub, there is no substitute!
Having seen a few Penn Stations while traveling, one finally opened near my hometown. So what do I do? Play Magic with a few friends til we get hungry and we make our way to Penn Station to try it out.
This location is conveniently located in the Metro Centre in Peoria, IL. Inside, the place is spacey, but not too big nor too small. It’s a good size for a ‘semi-fast food’ place. 10 people in there would make it seem busy but not crowded.
Any way, on to the food. I ordered an 8″ Chicken Parmesan and a small fry. They offered me a free water but I declined. The sub itself was good, if not lacking a bit in full flavor. They serve it splayed open and cut in half instead of folded up. Different, but cool. My friends and I liked the fries the most. A meal will run you about $10 if you get chips and soda.
The staff was friendly if not a bit unprofessional during down times. The store was super clean though. The on-duty manager stopped by our table to talk on his way out and he gave Alex grief for eating all his fries before he even touched his sub. Ha!
Firehouse Subs still holds my Top Spot for Subs. Sadly this did not come close to conquering the Top Spot. But… all-in-all, a pretty decent Sub place. It didn’t blow my taste buds away, but it didn’t really excite them too much either.
If you are interested in trying them out, there are over 300 locations in 15 states, so there might just be...
Read moreFirst and foremost, before I begin into my experience, I want to say that the food is good. The subs are very flavorful and the fries are just as good as five guys, which is an uber compliment. Ok, now into my experience. I walked in and ordered a 12 inch Philly Cheesesteak sub, without pepperchinis and with mayo, and fries. I watch them through the process of making my sub. At some point the girl working the line has a melt down and sent my sub out to a table waiting for their order in front of me. Instead of call the girl out, I watch it happen and wait for them to give me the wrong food, which they absolutely do. Upon them handing me my order, I tell the woman that the sub in the bag isn't mine and she insisted it was right. I told her if she could kindly check to make sure, I would appreciate it. Upon inspection, I was correct and the sub was incorrect. The (manager) proceeded to walk away and make me a new sub. By the time it was all over, I waited about 20-25 mins to get my sub and friend, and spent $18.00 and change (Do not get the large fry unless you are feeding the Greater Peoria Area), and didn't get one sorry from the staff, or an offer for anything. As I got home, the first bite I took, I bit into a pepperchini. The staff in this store in inept. The food was good, but the service was about as bad as you can get for the...
Read moreI rated 5 six months ago but now im lowering it to a two. Let me start off saying Penn Station is my favorite place to get subs but yesterday sunday the 13th I walked in at 3:21, there was a sign on the door saying they were closing at 3 due to weather but the open sign was still on and There were people inside eating and the cooks were still cooking so I thought maybe they left the sign on the door from the day before or they decided to stay open. So I thought I'd walk in and ask if they were still open. Well as soon as I open the door the tall skinny female gave me a death stare that could kill. So I walked up and asked if they were still open and she said yes but with an attitude that punched me in the gut and made me lose my appetite. I've been here many times and she has always been decent but her attitude that day was uncalled for. I work in the restaurant industry and if you choose to work in the part that deals with customers then you have to not let your bad day get in the way and not take it out on the customers. It really sucks cause I really loved coming there to get my favorite subs but the food is only half of the experience if the customer service isn't there then you have nothing. I don't know if I'll ever...
