From the unremarkable exterior, and slightly bland whitewashed interior, you might not expect tasty food to come out of the kitchen, you'd be wrong. I have driven past here many times, but unfortunately never stopped as I was always on my way somewhere else, and it's off the beaten path for me. I'm happy that I was finally able stop.
I ordered a Super Gyro, a side of cheese balls, and Tiramisu to finish off with (all pictured).
The gyro was very good. The meat slices were a little "to identical" so I'm unsure if their cook is an extremely talented cutter, or they are pre-cut and fried to crisp up. Either way, they had lots of flavor and weren't overly greasy. The Tzatziki sauce was more like plain yogurt, that didn't seem to have any flavor on it's own, which was sad, but it still did a good job offsetting the salty tang of the Feta and olives. The bread was incredible, soft, fluffy and didn't interfere with the flavor of ingredients that it held.
The cheese balls were good, the breading wasn't overly heavy, but the dressing served with them tasted like a typical ranch. Something with a different flavor profile more suited to the restaurant would have been preferred.
The Tiramisu was impressive. I'm not sure if it's something they make, or purchase commercially and repackage. I want to be clear, I don't point that out to be insulting, it either means they make it in house and it's amazing, or they purchase a quality brand.
As I noted above the decor is a bit lacking, they could use some color on the walls, something bright and saturated, artwork, photos, a painted stripe, etc, just to give the place some personality and a Mediterranean vibe. The two large TVs, despite the rotating imagery, don't count. Even if I'm taking something to go, I would like to see something other than...
Read moreThey have good food, when it is made correctly. Too many times they have given me overcooked cheese stiks, where there is no cheese in most of them. I got under-cooked, soggy fries today. And the low review is for their poor customer service. When I call them out on a wrong order, or gross side, they don't try to make it right. Basically when they screw up my take-out, like forget my fries, I'm suppose to pause my lunch to go back and get my fries, while my food goes cold, and they offer no sympathy for their mistake. Most places will realize that their mistake is an inconvenience to you and give you a coupon or something to make it right, just not here at Khoury's, they act like I shouldn't be put out by their constant mistakes. Well guess what, I am, and we will never order from...
Read moreThis place is not a restaurant. It seems like a convenience store with restaurant pricing. They only use prepackaged food and serve it. The gyro is frozen, and all they do is defrost and warm it in a microwave before serving. Disregard the spinning gyro stand; it is mostly a demo. The hummus is commercially prepackaged in plastic containers, and they simply put it on your table. They don't even bother to make pita bread; instead, they use cheap commercially imported ones from Canada or other cheap commercial options available. Overall, it's a waste of time and money. With this quality, you are better off buying microwaveable dinner food at the grocery store for a much...
