Update 5/2025 I'd go more often but I'd rather have smaller portions for less money, but when I'm hungry enough and am able to deal with toting leftovers home, this is a fun old fashioned place to eat. I like that they have some other beers than just Bud available in pitchers: we went with the hazy Church Music which went well with my meatloaf and fresh zucchini, and the sweet potato fries and onion rings(up-charges, but tasty). My partner's 1/2 rotisserie chicken was succulent and he was pleased with perfectly steamed broccoli, but the mashed potatoes didn't taste homemade and that is one thing you should count on in this type of place, so hopefully they can change that for the better. They make homemade pies and cakes here and I opted for the key lime pie and it reminded me of the ones with condensed milk and I wished it could be more mouth puckering, but am sure it would be fine for others. The server was attentive but not intrusive and all the other customers seemed to be having a pleasant time as well. Surprises like that are great--thank you Mercer's! Pleasant Arizona photos line the dining area which is good since there are no views, but a thoughtful Wall of Heroes greets you on the way in. Specials of the day, all fairly priced around $10 included Chicken Pot Pie which was a little soupy, but flavorful and had real chicken and not those prefab cubes in the frozen ones, had mushrooms and peas and carrots and potatoes too, and was accompanied by a nice warm roll and choice of soup so I had navy bean which was excellent and more than a cup.Garnish on the plate of lettuce leaf and tomato slice was an appetizing touch. Friend really enjoyed her fried cod sandwich and the homemade chocolate cake. Masks required says the site but customers weren't wearing any and none of the help was either, so that info must be old and should be updated. Our silverware was not wrapped but brought to us by an ungloved handler--that's easy enough to fix and should be, with or without a...
Read moreVisited for the first time today and what a gem of a place! I'd never heard of this spot before but went today at the invitation of a friend who is a regular. The place was packed, which is often a good sign, but the service was still pretty speedy despite the crowd. The wait staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful.
I tried their Sunday lunch special, a full Thanksgiving Dinner, and it was delicious! The turkey was wonderful. They give you the choice of white or dark meat or half of each. I opted for the half and half choice and both were moist and flavorful. The brown gravy was seasoned perfectly with the right balance of saltiness and a bit of meaty flavor which I assume is from some stock used in it.
I was also really impressed with the stuffing. As one who grew up with home made stuffing every holiday as opposed to the stuff from a box, I am a bit picky about stuffing. It's often too dry or not seasoned well in restaurants, but this stuffing was really great. Not dried out at all and very flavorful.
The mashed potatoes were quite nice as well but the whipped sweet potatoes were the star of the plate for me. Smooth, sweet, and creamy; they were absolutely delicious. I did order mine without the marshmallows that typically come on them to lower my sugar intake but they were still tasty regardless. The green beans were the only thing that I didn't love. They were pretty solid; served with nice chunks of bacon and onion, my only gripe is I prefer them to be cooked down a bit more to make them a bit more tender but I recognize that is totally a personal preference thing so I can't dock them any points for that.
Their menu is quite extensive and the dishes I saw on other diner's tables around me all looked delicious as well. My friend tells me that everything he's tried is great. The Friday cod and chips special sounds particularly good to me so I'm fairly certain that this will not be my last visit. If you're in the area, I recommend giving this...
Read moreTop shelf. The service separates them from the heard. Over and above sincere, friendly, competent, professional service. The decor is a little low budget and very dated, but immaculate. Friday was all you can eat fried cod, fried shrimp, or both, so that's what my wife and I ordered. It comes with a million sides in an array of options. When the dust settled I had the coleslaw, french fries, a vegetable, and the cod & shrimp.
Usually at "All-you-can-eat" places you never see your waiter after the initial serving. Every time our waitress walked by our table she asked if we were ready for more.
It's just plain, down-home cookin' like you'd make it yourself. Nothing fancy, but good. Very good. It's "all you can eat" but the plate she brought us to start with was MORE than we could eat.
Great value - great staff, excellent experience. One very minor flaw. You paybat the counter as you leave, which is the same counter you check-in tobwhen you arrive. When we were ready to leave the small entrance was jam packed with people. It was hard to tell who was paying, who was checking in, and who was just waiting. And the man who handles that counter was off bussing tables.
Other than the confusion and the wait to pay, overall a great experience -...
