Firstly, what a delightful little gem to have discovered in a small town and on its second day of the grand opening too! (Congrats and welcome to the neighborhood, wishing you many more good days and returns.)
My mother surprised me on a whim stopping here as she knew I had been waiting for the restaurant to open. We've both had the pleasure of living x traveling in Asia, and we were so pleased to find this oasis of authentic dishes. From its humble exterior, you will enter to a clean and minimalist interior where friendly staff welcome you in beside the glass counter where sushi is freshly prepared. The atmosphere, while quiet on their second day opening, is vibrant with fun upbeat k-pop-esque music, giving an East Coast vibe meets the anime youth of the Midwest. (Talking to you Colossalcon crowd, you will love this place!)
You will find a variety on the menu blending Chinese and Japanese dishes, boba tea, and an entire page just dedicated to sushi and ramen. We ordered the Singapore noodles, Tonkotsu ramen, and a side of smoked salmon sashimi. The wait was well worth the presentation of each dish, the plating of the sushi in particular its own work of art. We joked the chefs must have caught that salmon fresh just for us it! And the ingredients--heavenly--you can tell they are coming out of the kitchen fresh, piping hot, from the egg noodles swimming in sesame, seaweed, and broth, to the perfectly browned meats and cooked veggies piled high.
The staff of all ages are humble, gracious, and incredibly sweet. They continued to check in on the dining experience throughout the meal.
If you're bored of the mediocre American fanfare catering to the tourist crowds along the 250 strip on your way to CP and are looking for a great meal, well priced, and with genuinely kind staff, look no further then Hong Xing Lou. We will be back! :)

Read moreI have visited this restaurant three times since it opened. The first two visits were absolutely wonderful, deserving of a solid 5 stars for both the service and the delicious food.
Unfortunately, our most recent visit was quite disappointing. I'm not sure what happened, but the professional-looking menu we were used to was replaced by a simple one-sheet paper menu, and it seemed like the number of dishes had been reduced. The food we received was not hot enough, and to top it off, our appetizer and first entree arrived at the same time. We couldn't even start eating because we didn't have any utensils. It was a while before the second dish came out, and everyone seemed so busy that we couldn't get anyone's attention to ask for chopsticks.
Based on the average of our experiences (5 stars for the first two visits and 2.5 stars for the last), a 4-star rating feels accurate. I hope they can return to the excellent standard they set at the beginning.

Read moreThank you to Hong Xing Lou for a wonderful experience. Not only is this an excellent Asian restaurant, it’s now a great late night eats spot as well! My brother and I had a craving for Chinese after midnight this past weekend and Hong Xing Lou delivered. They have a smaller midnight menu that provides ample options. The food was prepared fresh and everything was delicious. At other places open late night, I have noticed service tends to be sub par. Not here! All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The establishment was clean and atmosphere was just right. This is an excellent spot to stop late, after a night of fun at Cedar Point, coming back on the Jet Express after a day at the islands, or many of the various other activities that Sandusky provides. I was very impressed and I will back to try them for their lunch and dinner menus as well. I fully recommend this spot for great sushi, and...
