I used to live in Ohio and would frequent this location whenever I would be in the area. I now live in the Chicago area and sadly there are NO Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken locations near me. Many times on my way back home to Northeast Ohio I will make a detour off of the Ohio Turnpike to visit Lee's, this last trip back was no exception.
Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken honestly has THE BEST FRIED CHICKEN!!! It somewhat reminds me of the Kentucky Fried Chicken of my youth (there might be a very good reason for this as the founder was one of Colonel Sanders' nephew's). I always get the original recipe chicken which is out of this world (even now that I am limiting carbs I still opt for fried as opposed to grilled). As for the sides my hands down favorite is their potato wedges!!! I am in heaven with the potato wedges and chicken. Sadly I can no longer eat the potato wedges but their green beans and buttered corn are also good. I would say the only side that I ever was not a huge fan of is their mashed potatoes.
So if you are heading to Sandusky to visit Cedar Point or you are just passing through Ohio via the turnpike or State Route 2 do yourself a huge favor and stop by Lee's. Oh yes and if you doubt how much better this place might be than KFC I will tell you a quick story. Years ago there was a KFC located just down the street from Lee's, same side of the street and only about six or so stores down. KFC is NO LONGER THERE, they closed up shop, but Lee's lives on. In this case the BEST...
Read moreLees Chicken is one of our favorite places to order chicken. No where else compares with their fried chicken!! The chicken is crispy and the breading is great tasting and the chicken pieces are big and meaty. And all the sides always are so tasty too. The gravy is just wonderful. The biscuits are big and hot and fluffy. We had 2 gift certificates that were given to us by a manager a while ago due to our order being shorted 5 pieces of chicken, (I am sure because it was a busy time of day), and today we drove to Sandusky to use them for our takeout. We live in Milan Ohio. We ordered the 16 piece meal. Our order was taken. The cashier could not get the gift cards to work, as the computers were not working properly. The manager told us that since we had driven from our house to Sandusky, and we had planned on having Lees Chicken for our dinner, that they would comp our 16 piece meal order for free and we could still keep our gift certificates for the next time!! We were very appreciative. We are senior citizens and we do like to splurge twice a month to have Lees Chicken meals for dinner. Everyone who works at Lees Chicken in Sandusky Ohio is always friendly and courteous. The restaurant is always very clean. The food is excellent, always hot and tasty. We always recommend Lees to our family...
Read moreBest fried chicken I had in America! Prices was kinda bad. They charge 10¢ a plate which isn't a big deal but the fact that they do that is just scummy and a slap in the face to me because their fried chicken is already so expensive. They cashier who addressed us was didn't really seem to care at all to serve us which would lead me to believe they don't treat their staff very well which is another slap in the face because of their expensive chicken. The sides we ordered were called large and if that were the case then I would hate to see what the small sides would like. Half a mouth full each of Mac and cheese, two teaspoons of mash potatoes but the Cole slaw was decently sized as well as the baked beans but none of them was by any means large. All the sides tasted good apart from the baked beans which I can't comment about because I didn't get an answer from the server as to whichever or not the baked beans had any beef or pork in it. I loved the chicken but hated basically everything else. I don't blame the server for being unenthusiastic because I been there done that, overworked and underpaid which I would maybe look over if their chicken didn't cost an arm and a leg and...
