Ewald's Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Perryville

Full disclosure, I am friends with the owners but my review is still objective. I first ate here a few months back and really appreciate the small town vibe. The food is good and the prices are unbeatable. Today my family took a road trip from Indianapolis to eat here and visit the owners. We ordered a little bit of everything and our favorite is the cheeseburgers. They are fresh, simple but amazingly good, especially if you like cheeseburgers of yesteryear when they were simple and delicious. The chocolate malt was great too. The family is 3rd generation of owners dating back to 1946, the history is worth the visit alone. Very kind, warm family. Stop by and they will treat you with the Midwest hospitality that the region is famous for. We will be back again and again, even from 300 miles away.

I sat down in Ewald's Bar-B-Q last Friday for lunch after ordering a regular Smoked Beef sandwich, onion rings, Coca-Cola, and a strawberry cheesecake milkshake. A very amicable employee took my order at the front counter and, when asked, clearly answered my questions about the menu items. The general ambiance of the dining room was kindred & welcoming; I could tell a lot of patrons were regulars, and everyone was in good spirits. This complemented the many framed photographs and restaurant relics on display throughout the dining area quite well and makes one easily understand how Ewald's Bar-B-Q has positively impacted the Perryville region for decades. Literally the blandest BBQ sauce I've ever had in my entire life, and I've eaten BBQ around the US. The pork was in weird, square, shaved pieces that did not taste fresh at all. I've literally had better BBQ from Aldi. Also, terrible service, had to wait 15 minutes for the fries and onion rings (the BBQ and buns were given to us within two minutes, pulled from the fridge because you have to reheat it yourself), and we got about 20 french fries and six onion rings.
