I went to Harlow's Pub on a Sunday evening with my girlfriend. It definitely has the "small town/pub" feel to it. Every inch of wall is covered with a picture, poster, or some kind of decoration. It is not, however, what you'd expect to be a "pub." IT IS NOT A FULL BAR. They have a decent selection of beers, wine and ciders though, most of which come from a can and are a little pricey.
We were seated almost instantly, and our server greeted us shortly after we were sat. She was knowledgeable about the drink selection and brought us our first drinks then took our order. This ends the positive parts of our experience.
The food took about twenty five minutes to get to our table, and half of the food was cold. While we were waiting for our food, our server took away my empty bottle, and I had to try to flag her down three times before I could get her to bring me another drink. Who takes away an empty without offering a new one?
My girlfriend had the chicken, broccoli alfredo. Aside from half of the plate being cold, the sauce AND chicken were both burnt. The sauce was watery and very bland. It was almost uneatable. I had the diablo chicken. The sauce was really good, not over-powering at all, but, my chicken was over-cooked and chewy, and this plate was half-cold as well.
When the server finally came to check on us, I had been without a drink again for about 10 minutes and we were about done eating. She offered to get my girlfriend a drink, and as I started to ask for a drink she turned around and walked away. Furthermore, when she came back with my girlfriend's drink and I was finally able to ask for another, the server helped all of her other tables before grabbing it.
The server came back and we told her we were done with our food and needed the check, and that took at least another ten minutes.
All in all, the food was below average, and the service was terrible. I won't be going there again, and wouldn't recommend it to...
Read moreHave enjoyed Harlow's for almost 20 years, but it has changed for the worse with new ownership. Being honest the food is still good and the atmosphere is still special. But service (always the weak point) is now abysmal. To whit - we arrived at 6:50pm on a Friday with Harlow's maybe half full (this itself is unusual, Harlow's used to have a 30 minute wait at this hour). We sat at our table for 20 minutes before a server finally arrived, we ordered immediately (our check shows the order being placed at 7:12pm). The meal, just two sandwiches, took 50 minutes to prepare and serve. I ordered a side-salad and asked for it to come in advance. I was told "it will come with your meal, we can't provide it early." Huh? My wife drank her Diet Coke. It took 10 minutes to flag our non-attentive server, 20 minutes later she still was without a drink. I flagged the server again and was told "I placed the order. We have to wait till they make it." They make a Diet Coke??? It came 5 minutes later, 35 total minutes without a drink for my wife. Honestly the sandwiches and salad were good. But then we got the check. We had each ordered a soda on arrival. $2.50 each. But then they charged another $2.50 for my first refill, then another $1 each for a final refill for myself and the previously mentioned one for my wife; $9.50 total for 2 soft drinks. We checked - nowhere on the menu is this mentioned. That type of billing went out 30 years ago! But I was too tired to argue. It had taken another 15 minutes to find our server to get us the check. The restaurant now only 1/3rd full. Did I mention the customers next to us had their dog eating off a plate on their table? Yes, an outdoor table, but it was a large dog and it shared their meal off the restaurant's china. The staff said nothing. Harlow's has sadly lost 2 customers. We've watched the decline for awhile. It has now...
Read moreWe have tried this place a handful of times over the last few years and have never once left with a good taste in our mouths. Literally or figuratively. The only saving grace this "pub" has lands with its location and vibe. Music nights are fun, it has the look of a long standing well run bar, but it just lacks in everything else. Servers are all very sweet, but it always seems so chaotic. Or closed at random.
Mixed drinks are absolutely awful. A few months back i had a mai tai special and it was disgusting. All syrup. Not mixed. Just.. I felt bad for even ordering it as the person working had no idea how to make it, even though it was advertised as a special. Everything we tried on tap just tastes off, dirty glasses, sticky bar top, etc. So I eventually gave up and only get shots or cans/bottles.
Food? What food? The menu looks nice, but it doesn't really match what you get. Its very inconsistent, and often burnt but somehow also cold by the time you get it. we have gone in for a quick bite and ended up waiting almost an hour for burnt and dried cheese nachos (mind you that there was no other customers waiting for food, it was very slow, just people drinking). Sandwichs I ordered the first time made both of us sick the following day. I finally stopped ordering food knowing that if I did, I would probably be destroying the bathroom later if not just have full on food poisoning..which had happened every time I tried to eat here.
I hate that this is the case. It is a beautiful spot. It has so much potential.. but it is very clear that there is no leadership, support or training being given to the staff...
