My sweetheart and I went here on our second date. The original plan was to meet at Dead King Bread in Manyunk, and then hike in the Wissahickon. Dead King was closed, however, and my sweetheart quickly suggested Roma Cafe as an alternative. I'm ashamed to say that I never knew about this bakery. When I think of Italian bakeries, I typically think of South Philly. This is the real deal. An interior that harkens back to earlier times, and probably owners that harken back to an earlier time!
It was here that I discovered that my sweetheart is extravagant with treats, especially sweets. As a bit of a minimalst, I chose a rather bland biscuit. He chose an array of half a dozen treats, including canolies.
When we eventually made our way to the Wissahickon, we discovered that we had each packed more treats for the hike - cheese, grapes. He brought the most wonderful brie from Trader Joes that was as soft and gooey as if you had baked it in the oven. I noted with approval that he was equipped with a good picnic bag, as was I.
As we walked through the Wissahickon, I was captivated by his friendliness to everyone we passed on the trails, including the dogs.
Everything was delicious, and I appreciated that the canolis were...
Read moreI'm very late to give this review, but better late than never! About 2 months ago I pre-ordered a banana creme pie from Cafe Roma. The day I needed to pick it up started out as a rough day, and when I arrived at the bakery I was clearly frazzled. The owners took notice and treated me with such care; they sat me down, gave me a doughnut and tea, and talked to me about what was going on. It was honestly the most kind, heartwarming experience I've had in a very long time. I felt like family. To top it off, it was the best dang pie I've ever eaten! I have since recommended this bakery to dozens of people - even posting it in my work slack channel. Kudos to this family - they are invaluable members of our community and I am so grateful for their...
Read moreWow what a nice experience to order from Cafe Roma. I ordered a birthday cake for the first time, I was referred to them by a restaurant who has the best Italian rum cake around. I ordered it was easy and so reasonably priced and when I went to pick up today the gentleman working behind the counter brought my cake out to my car and even stood watch in the road as I buckled my 10month old in her car seat. It was just so nice and refreshing to be treated so kind. Left me feeling like I found a hidden gem in Roxborough. But it sounds like their reputation isn’t really a secret. The cake looks delicious!!! And beautiful!!!! If I can update after we taste the cake I will. Thank...
