Cosmi's Deli — Restaurant in Philadelphia

I went to Cosmi's at the recommendation of a co worker who used to live in Philly. She said it was a small hole in the wall with the best non greasy cheese steaks in Philly. So I went with my wife and two kids and noticed that it is indeed a small hole in the wall, with an emphasis on small. They had two card tables, one sat four and the other two, small folding chairs that came with the card tables most likely. Cosmi's is a convenience store with a deli of hot and cold foods. My wife and I got the cheese steaks and my kids a hot dog, we also got fries. The cheese steaks are the best I've had, nice and juicy meat, cheese melted evenly throughout, nice crisp bread. The hotdogs were also quite good, all beef. Fries were better than I expected, nothing great, but better than your typical takeout. So, obviously, this place isn't fancy, and it's not a comfortable to eat in. But it still has its small neighborhood charm, just listening to the locals come in and talk while they wait for their orders is fun to hear everything going on. But ultimately, you come here for the cheese steaks (or based on the crowd, many of their other choices), and you will not be disappointed. To top it off, while you were here and lucky enough to find a spot to park, walk a block to the Termini Brothers Bakery...

16 violations, 7 serious A food preparation sink was not observed at the facility; Deli meats, cut vegetables and cheeses were not properly covered in the deli case and walk-in cooler; Deli slicers observed unclean; Melted cheese, roast pork and beef gravy in the hot hold unit were observed at 115-120 degrees Fahrenheit; Sauces labeled for refrigeration after opening were observed at room 65.7 degrees Fahrenheit in the storage shelves. Bacon and cheese observed at 60.5-63.4 degree Fahrenheit next to the griddle; Potentially hazardous food including cakes, fruit salad, puddings, macaroni and tuna salads, and cut vegetables, and gravy were not observed with dates of when they were prepared or when they should be sold by; Rat & mouse feces observed in the basement. Mouse feces observed under the shelving and table in the rear office, and under the preparation table; Dead mouse observed at the bottom of the stairwell of the rear basement. The establishment was issued a Cease Operations Order and was required to discontinue food operations immediately. The establishment could not operate for a minimum of 48 hours....
