I always stop in for the pecan and persimmon muffin—it’s a standout and one of the main reasons I keep coming back. The coffee has a tangy flavor that doesn’t quite suit my taste, but to be fair, I’m not much of a coffee person.
The cafe/bakery tends to be busy with kids when I visit, which isn’t my preference, so I usually opt for takeout. A couple of months ago, I was lucky enough to try their sandwiches and a cookie during a pop-up event. Both sandwiches; the chickpea and the sweet potato, had incredibly well-balanced flavors. While I personally would have preferred a meat option (I ended up adding my own lunch meat), the quality and seasoning of the sandwiches were impressive.
The tomato pie was great! The perfect amount of spice and it’s still good the next day. It’s $6 per serving, but the servings are quite big.
One thing I don’t like about Downtime is the small quantities of baked goods. Myself and people I know are lucky to find anything we like or are looking for because they are always sold out. I would suggest baking in larger batches.
Overall, this spot has some great offerings, especially for those who enjoy creative vegetarian options. I plan to...

My family and I have been counting down the days until Downtime officially opened their doors and we are SO EXCITED. We moved into the neighborhood 18 months ago and have been longing for good bagels (actually wanting GREAT bagels, but were willing to settle).
That’s when I heard a rumor that Downtime was planning to open on Germantown Ave, next to Zsa’s.
In disbelief, I ordered a few dozen bagels from Downtime’s pop-ups and my family loved them. The sesame are particularly perfect. Rarely would the dozen last a day in our house. Everyone, even our two year old, devoured them.
Great bagels. Better than Brooklyn.
Now, Downtime is open!
This isn’t just another cafe. It’s like eating something curated by New York Times food critics. The atmosphere on the opening weekend was bubbly and fun. The coffee was great. The sandwiches were fat. The ginger cookies have a cult following, IYKYK.
This bakery is exactly what my family needed. It’s what the community needed. We will be regulars.
Congratulations Dana and...
Read moreRequested bagels to be toasted but they weren't. They were still delicious but probably would've been amazing warm. Coffee was not tasty. Tomato pie was delicious per my daughter, but I feel like you should ask before giving a corner piece. There was barely any tomato with the tomato pie. Other baked goods we got were good. Unsure if I would go again. Maybe to try a toasted/warm bagel. Love that they were made from sourdough. Parking was on the street but not too challenging to find. Barely any wait inside. Cute inside with a few tables available to eat in. Love that patrons had the option to compost their trash when...
