First and foremost this is not a traditional quilt shop. If that's what you're expecting, you will be disappointed.
Melissa has a selection of Kona solids for sale off the bolt. There is also a previously loved section of fabrics and myriad sewing related delights which have all been donated. It's worth a look for some hidden gems.
What Cut & Sew is IMO is a learning center. There are several sewing machines set up in the front room and a longarm in the back. The studio's goal is making sewing accessible to everyone - there are multiple classes, summer camps, after school programs to make this possible for any one, any age. After taking a course on longarm basics, you will be able to rent time on the same longarm to finish your quilts.
This is not a destination shop for me but if I'm in the area and they are open, I do stop in to browse the previously loved section (or drop off donations). If I lived in the neighborhood and had kids who could take advantage of her offerings, I would...
Read moreCut and Sew is one of the reasons I love this neighborhood! I have taken two classes here: one visible mending workshop, and one class introducing me to the very basics of a sewing machine. At the visible mending workshop, the instructor gave me supplies and some visual inspiration to fix a couple of my most-loved pieces. I’ve attached a photo of the finished patch job of a knee hole in my jeans that I started at the studio. And thanks to the sewing machine class, I am not so scared of all of the knobs and dials! In all: the studio is welcoming, staff are super knowledgeable and helpful, and I have learned useful creative skills that I have been able to put to use during and after my classes at Cut and Sew. Can’t beat that! Oh, and Cut and Sew has a little section at the front selling fabric at reasonable prices. Great place to get your supplies and support an awesome...
Read moreI had a terrific experience with Cut and Sew when they repaired a vintage quilt for me. Although the quilt was overall in good condition, there were many blocks o the quilt top that had come apart. I wasn't sure what they could do to rehab it, but it came out fantastic! To say that the repair exceeded my expecations would be an understatement. They managed to find material that was just right for the quilt and then hand sewed the new blocks to repair the existing loose blocks. The overall result is amazing and the repair blends in so well it looks like it had been there forever. I've attached a picture of teh quilt to this review--see if you can spot a repair! All in all, I can't say enough good things about this charming shop and the lovely...
