Owner is unethical, sells donated neighborhood books for profit: My friends and I have noticed the owner of this bookstore taking ALL of the books from the local little libraries around West Philly. He then SELLs the books that people have DONATED for his own profit. This saddens me as I see many children walk up to the little library eager to grab a book to take home; however, often times no books are left because this man takes all the books for himself. I find these actions to be selfish and unethical, the purpose of the little libraries are to give other people the opportunity to read books. You take one and give one. Not take all and sell for profit and greed. Please beware some of the books in this store were donated by locals with the intention of them being FREE for others to read and pass on. Now you’re buying them from an unethical person.

If you enjoy wasting money on overpriced books you can find cheaper elsewhere, this is your place! The selection is pathetically limited - I've seen better variety in airport convenience stores. But the real highlight is the owner, who treats customers like unwelcome intruders. Heaven forbid you ask a question about a book - you'll be met with sighs, eye-rolling, and condescending remarks. Save yourself the frustration and shop literally anywhere else. One star only because zero isn't an option.

A great place to spend a few minutes, hours--or days looking for books. There's a wide variety and the prices are fair. The owner is a little...eccentric; however, the sheer volume of books and the cute bookstore cat make up for that. Everytime I go into the store, I come out with three or more books without breaking the bank. It's just the kind of store needed when you have Amazon trying to take over the world.

I called Last Word looking for a specific title for a gift for my sister's birthday tomorrow, the idea just came to me and I wanted to try to find it locally before purchasing from the internet. The gentleman on the phone said the title sounded rare and that "the thing about the internet is" that he can charge me as much as the online purveyors are asking, but no, he didn't have the title.

While they answered the phone on the first ring, I'll give them two stars. But I'll remember the next time I'm looking for something that they'll make sure to charge me the highest price they can get... Nevermind that I choose to buy local and support my community before hitting up the Amazon.

I thought it was rude and unprofessional and they will not get my business...

I never knew something like this would have ever happened to me before. In my brain, this is the type of stuff that happened in those books I was reading. This stuff doesn’t happen to me 😅 or so I thought! I was just racially profiled inside a BOOKSTORE! By an older WT lady. I was told to “be quiet and just leave. Bc it’s quiet in here” But what, Ms.Mam? I’m looking for a book just like you. What’s the issue?! The person, I'm assuming is the Owner, told us to ignore her, but she kept following Me! He didn’t really make me feel safe and comfortable to continue you on browsing. I got to the point and decided to leave peacefully as much as I wanted to act out of character and had every right to! I didn’t! I walked away! Left...
