I’m very disappointed; I’ve been eating at Johnny Chang’s since I’m a YOUNG girl. I’ve never really had any issues in there aside from the lady at the front (whose been a fixture there for at least 30 years server/hostess). She has always been very cold & unwelcoming everytime I’ve ever gone in there to eat or pick up food. Tonight I walked in there with my boyfriend to eat dinner & asked for a table for two. She looked at us and said “we’re no longer serving food in the restaurant, take out only.” It was about 7:55p.m. We both looked at each other super confused since they’re opened until 9:30p.m. We both asked to use the bathroom & when we came out of the bathroom there were two people sitting there waiting to pickup their take out order & a Asian man & woman who were clearly walking in to sit down to eat- they asked for a table for two. The hostess quietly said okay, one moment (cutting him off mid sentence so I wouldn’t catch on) as if I wasn’t going to hear or see her (while she waited for us to walk out of the restaurant.) She looked at us and said “you wanted to order something to go, right?” Long story short, she told us that we couldn’t dine in and then told the other people that they could? I asked her why she told us something different & she said that she changed her mind & that she was allowed to change her mind about dining in. She said that no dining in could happen after 8:00pm, but told the Asian couple they could sit in the dining room? Not sure what type of place does this? It’s very disappointing that after being a customer of Johnny Chang’s for years, never having any issues- that she would just turn us away from dining in- but welcome others? I don’t think rude is even a word that fits the situation. I will never ever be eating there or ordering take out from this establishment ever again. I felt extremely offended, confused & almostly insecure about why I’d be targeted and so unwelcome. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life at a restaurant. Do yourself a favor & find a different Chinese restaurant to spend your money with. This lady is the only person who you’ll ever really see in there (aside from kitchen staff popping out randomly- she answers the phones, takes orders, collects money & also serves). IF she allows you to sit in the dining room to eat, I promise you won’t leave thinking that you had a pleasant dining experience.
My parents have been taking me there for years & the food is very mediocre AT BEST, aside from the few things that I’ve grown accustomed to liking.
Once again, VERY disappointed...
Read moreI don't know how to say this nicely but Johnny Chang's sucks. On 2 separate occasions I have had extremely rude experiences and bad food. I mean literally, the fish was spoiled on my daughter's sushi delivery. When I called to explain that the fish was bad, all of a sudden their English got worse as if they could not understand what I was telling them. After 10 minutes of explaining, they offered me a discount on my next order! Uh, Hello? My daughter was hungry and eagerly awaiting the food. I said no. I would like a new order. I told them I would give the first order back so they could see for themselves the fish was bad. After 20 minutes they finally agreed. I had to give back the old order. I showed the driver the old fish and I made him stay there until I checked out the new fish. The difference was unbelievable. I have no idea how they let that first order get out the door! So he took the old order back. I hope they didn't try to give it to someone else. The second time me and my daughter went into Johnny Chang's for some wonton soup and tea while we waited for my husband who was at a Dr's appt. down the street. We asked if we could sit down and eat. Mind you, there was only one other couple in the restaurant. So they let us sit. When we ordered our drinks. She came back with them and asked what we wanted. I told her my daughter would just like some wonton soup as I really wasn't hungry. She told us no! She said we had to pay more than 10 dollars to be served and made us get up! We had every intention on tipping her and she totally embarrassed us! I could maybe understand if the place was packed and they didn't want to waste a table. Both times these people were extremely rude. I will never use them for any service again. No wonder why nobody was in there. I also should mention they are way overpriced. Last thing! My daughter is only 14 and was devestated when they made us get up to leave. Horrible...
Read moreI visit my husband's family here in Philly (from Texas) every few years and we always get Chinese food at least once while we are here. The places we usually order from were closed down, so we searched for Chinese food near us and this place popped up. I ordered from them on an app called qMenu. I placed my order and was given the option to pay in cash, so I picked that one. About 5 minutes after I placed my order, I got a phone call from the restaurant and they told me that my total would be $109 instead of the $93 that I was told on the app and that included delivery, tax, AND tip. When I asked them why the price was more, they told me it was because the prices had changed. That's fine, but they should REALLY update the prices on their website, it is NOT my problem that their prices changed but weren't changed on the website and I think they should have honored the prices and total that I was given on the app. Their food was alright, some a little bland, some very tasty and that's why they are getting 3 stars, but because of the experience I had with the ordering and price changes, I will not order from this...
