I am very much on the hunt for good Ethiopian food in Philadelphia and this area in particular seemed like it would have it so I was very hopeful. Ultimately, the restaurant was just okay.

For one, we came in at a time when they were very not busy and the reception was not so welcoming--which can be fine. But then your entire experience in deciding upon food is through an app, which I wish weren't the case and wish there were more interaction with someone who could provide recommendations. It took a full 28 minutes to receive our first food, which was the sambusa and very much not worth the wait or the money. Be aware that the prices currently are very different than those listed on Yelp/online. So the $7.25/2 sambusa platter finally came and was a much too hot to eat and really just full of lentils with nothing else-a fairly dry concoction. After another long wait, we received the 2 mains on a plate of injera. The doro wot was what we were super pumped about as it is advertised as their expertise. This consisted of essentially two chicken legs (minimal meat) and a sauce that was fairly mid in terms of flavoring-especially not worth it for the price. We had also gotten yebeg tibs, thankfully, because this was infinitely better in terms of flavoring and portion. This ultimately filled us up. The most positive aspect of the meal was the injera itself, which was nicely done and plentiful.

We had initially considered getting some meals to go but once we had the actual meal and experienced the 1) service and 2) price, we ultimately decided against it. Which is a shame. I appreciate that they maybe were a bit busy with lunch takeout but in terms of who was presently in the restaurant it felt like things took an exorbitant amount of time. Will probably try one of the many other places...

I have never eaten Ethiopian food and was brought here by a friend. What a fantastic experience! The quality of the food was outstanding and the experience was even better. All the food was served on a single round platter on what appeared to an American to be similar to a pancake - injera. The food, a variety of lentils, veggies, and meats were placed on top of the injera and we were given additional injera to eat the various dishes. I’ve never eaten without utensils or shared a giant plate with friends, so it was a great experience. The meats (we got chicken and beef tibs) were spicy and good. The veggies were tasty also. The food is clearly cooked to order - don’t expect this to be fast food, it is an opportunity to sit with friends and have a long meal together. I highly recommend going if you haven’t had Ethiopian food before. My friends, who have, said this was authentic...

This was so disappointing, I ordered the doro wot through Uber Eats. There was barely any doro, it was more of an injera-wot. When I pulled the meat off the bone it was only enough for 2 grabs, barely 2 Oz. Not only was there barely any doro, it was tough, and the wot had a burnt spicy taste, no actual flavor. I ordered the yebeg tibs from there another time, which also was bad but I figured it was just a bad batch so I decided to try the wot this time around. This is the closest place Uber would deliver from for my area, but I have learned my lesson and I will definitely stick to the places that I know are good. I've eaten at 4 or 5 different ethiopian restaurants in Philly and this is easily the worst - far from authentic ethiopian flavors. I want my money back but I know that is not going to happen. Basically paid $20 (with delivery)...

Excellent meal, highly recommend it if you like African or are curious about giving it a try. The Kitfo (minced beef with some heat, ordered rare), Doro Wat (chicken in a thick, heavily spiced, curry-ish sauce), and vegetarian sampler were more than enough to pleasantly fill up a party of three with leftovers. The sampler alone or together with one meat dish would be fine for a couple with moderate appetites. Great taste and texture to the injera bread. All of the dishes had unique flavor profiles, but the vegetables seemed to be the real crowd-pleasers and the size of the sampler was an excellent value. Small criticism — the service was friendly, but not exactly speedy or attentive. Not a big deal when the food is this good, but it would be great if the server(s) left a pitcher of water on the table.

I ordered online for pickup and got what is just called “Tibs” on the menu (not any of the special ones with another descriptor; note it is beef). I went with the spicy version and it was INCREDIBLE. It was spicy but not overly spicy, very juicy, and everything had so much flavor! It came with cabbage and lentils. The meat was amazing, but the lentils might be my favorite part. Everything came wrapped in injera and with extra on top in the container. The woman at the counter was very nice when I went to pick it up. I will definitely be ordering from here again Some useful notes: The food is delicious. Reasonably priced. There is a small service fee ($1) when ordering online. If paying by card instead of cash, they only take Visa or Mastercard, so plan accordingly.

This is a cozy little restaurant on Chestnut Street in University City. The hostess was exceptionally kind and accommodating to us. The food deserves 4.5 stars. The atmosphere and service gets 5 stars from me. We had Doro Wot, Veggie Combo for entrees. We also got a small smoothie and an Ethiopian beer for drinks. First off, the drinks were great. I highly recommend the Ethiopian beer (It’s named ‘Habesha’). It’s not too overpowering, has a pleasant taste and goes exceptionally well with the food. The food itself was great. Both dishes came with ample helpings of injerra (Ethiopian bread). I found some pieces of chicken in the Doro Wot to be a little hard to bite, but it was fine. The other servings of vegetables on the platter went great with the Doro Wot.
