The ice cream is good/great/maybe even fantastic. The service was meh. I wasnāt greeted when I walked in and the owner was a bit cold. Iām not sure if the ice cream is that good that itās worth their lack of brotherly love/sisterly affection vibe. For 12/pint, I expect more. Cuzzyās (5th & Passyunk) is just as good, maybe slightly better, and their service in supper sweet. I love spending a little extra to support local businesses, but there has to be that Philly feel (otherwise itās no different than going to the grocery to get a pint of Ben & Jerryās) and thatās sadly missing here. Hopefully youāll take this review to heart and change it up or maybe you were having a bad day, and I walked in on it? Iāll send my husband (born and raised near Passyunk) and see what he says about the service. I hope he has a better experience and that we can come back, and I can update my review.
**ETA - owner did reach out and requested that i introduce myself next time, so she can properly greet me. Well, thatās not genuine. So, I went a few months later, and again service was flat - and a mild attitude about sampling more than one flavor. No one was overtly rude, but if Iām spending 12$ for a pint of ice cream, I want a bubbly (like cāmon, itās an ice cream parlor) enthusiasm, and I donāt want to feel bad about sampling. The ice cream always tastes better when youāve been properly engaged. Especially if you spend 12$ and the flavor of the ice cream isnāt your jam - you wanna walk out feeling good about being a local patron at least.
Essen and Emilioās are neighboring merchants, and if you take notes from them, youāll be set.
I wish nothing but the best for all local Philly businesses to do well, but I wonāt be back because what I want (delicious ice cream, and service that justifies the expensive price) doesnāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHappened upon the Milk Jawn accidently and this will probably be one of my fav Philly ice cream locations. The name was what brought us - the flavor is what will keep us coming back. I can understand the service aspect someone else had mentioned, but it wasn't bad, just not what you'd expect in an ice cream spot. However, when we came in, there were only 2 people working and 1 gentleman doing waffle cones and they were all super busy. This place had a constant flow of customers - all of us taste testing because we were unsure what we wanted when every thing you sample is so good... Our first time wont be the last time. I had the tahini fudge and malted toffee - my fiance had milk and cookies with chocolate. Then went back and grabbed a cup of the lemon blueberry basil... Ahhhh delightful. And of course we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery interesting and delicious ice cream flavors. Upon entering we were greeted by the nicest female-she was welcoming, social, and offered samples as well as her choices as favorites. The gentleman at the register-bleh-long line behind me and he rather finish his text than to ring my sale up. Stood at the register for a good 3 min while he texted away-looked at me twice-didnāt excuse himself. Once finally done with his paragraph of a text-laid his phone down and asked ājust the singleā. I said yes-total came up and as I used apple lay-he went back to his phone. He lost the 5th star for the review-and probably should have given 3 stars because of him, however, the female staff member was so friendly and outgoing I canāt deduct another star. No phones at work-or at least on the front...
