Out West — Restaurant in Philadelphia

Absolutely fantastic. I was so happy to notice when the project of this place began because I followed the story of “Down North” and loved their mission. So to finally see them open and stop in with my teen son today had me shed a tear. I loved for him to see the time, care and creativity that people that look like him can offer to our neighborhood in West Philly. The restaurant is designed beautifully, the staff was so lovely and our food & drinks were delicious. He could not stop looking at his cup and smacking his lips from his Strawberry Basil Matcha. This is a place he can walk to from our home, and he can’t wait to return. I can’t wait to return!! Highly recommended for all around good drinks, food and vibes. The food was soo delicious and made with care and creativity. I watched the chef meticulously make a sandwich - he seems like the real deal. I had the BLT and my husband had the scrapple sandwich. Both were delicious and different from anything I’ve had before. We also had the strawberry basil matchas. I would never have thought this combination would work but oh boy, it did. The strawberry at the bottom was such a nice touch. We also loved the atmosphere. You can tell there’s so much intention and vision put into every detail of this place. We hung out in the bibliotheque upstairs - great art, ambiance, and amazing reads. Awesome addition to the neighborhood—immaculate vibes, calm, pleasing aesthetic, and super delicious, creative food and drinks. We tried the cardamom latte, brisket breakfast sandwich, sweet potato hash, and cinnamon roll. Everything was so yummy & we can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Cinnamon roll was our fave, probably the best and most interesting cinnamon roll I’ve ever tasted. Caramelized on the bottom, soft inside, nicely spiced (maybe a bit of cardamom along with the cinnamon?), dough tasted like it had a little sweet potato in it, topped w/ cream cheese frosting and pecans.
