I want to start this review by simply saying we didn’t have the chance to enjoy the cocktail service or food.
We stopped in, granted with a larger group of nine people. I’m well aware of the space being smaller than your average bar but we were met with a very bizzare experience. I’ve heard so many great things about this place and obviously the reviews speak for themselves. But as our group walked in there were nothing but unhappy glances from the bartenders and a host that stated he was “nervous that there were a lot of us by the door”.
We were preparing to see a show down the road at Union Transfer, so we kindly made it clear we simply wanted a round and the check, so there wasn’t a need for us to sit, but that we would if that’s what would make them feel more at ease with a larger group. There was apprehension around letting us stand to enjoy our drinks which I understand, once again, with a smaller space, but it was very clear we were not welcome there from the start. I’m in the business and have bartended for years, I understand the feeling of a larger group walking in when you’re busy. But they weren’t busy. Maybe there was a full bar but no one in seats from what I saw.
One of our party members heard one of the bartenders comment “thank god they left”, or something along those lines when we chose to leave to get a beer at the venue. Maybe an off night...and we were all very stoked to try this spot. We weren’t rude and we tried to make it work. We were all pretty astonished at the lack of...

The interior is beautifully appointed and the clientele runs the gamut from hot goth chicks to moody but polite punk guys; with absolutely EVERYTHING in between. The complimentary popcorn offered a pleasant contrast to the elevated but unpretentious cocktail program that my concubine and I enjoyed several selections from- each one better than the last. We would have lingered longer, but so aphrodisiacal was the ambiance that after two rounds (and a single smoldering look from my companion) we departed post-haste; our thirsts slaked and our loins yearning and burning with desire… Uh anyway long story short...
Read moreWhat a massive improvement on the use of space over W/N W/N Coffee Bar. Poison Heart is a low-key place, not trying to be the next big thing in the city. The bartenders and staff are all great and friendly.
They have a fairly limited and somewhat unique food menu, but if you're feeling peckish you should be able to find something.
The atmosphere is dark in a kind of romantic way. But it's also lively in a way where romance is not the dominant vibe and can be completely forgone if you so choose.
It's the type of cocktail bar where you come to relax, enjoy a couple drinks, and have some good conversations either with your friends or the...
