Sakura Ramen & Sushi bar — Restaurant in Philadelphia

My 8 year old son and I had a Mommy Dinner Date here the Saturday before Mother’s Day. We sat at the sushi bar so he could see the chefs in action. The waitstaff was super friendly, engaged with my son, and were very attentive throughout. We shared edamame, and I had spicy tuna tartare (served in a stack with avocado and mango, and 3 types of roe on top) - delicious! Little man had steamed pork gyoza and finished the platter of 5 or 6 himself. They brought kids chopsticks and a fork, so my son could choose. We ordered 3 specialty rolls - way too much for the two of us, but they all sounded so good, we decided to just go for it. They surprised us with an incredible omikase-style presentation! Completely unexpected and such a wonderful and kind gesture. We knew Daddy would be up for leftovers, so we saved room for dessert. We decided on a scoop of vanilla, and a tempura fried green tea. They must’ve heard us debating the chocolate cake, because the server returned with chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla, and the green tea. They wished me a Happy Mother’s Day and said dessert was on the house! We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience (unless they had bar service and lychee martinis ;-). We will most definitely be back, and happy to support these new owners who are really going out of there way to deliver a great experience. I’m not being paid for this recommendation, but I did get free dessert :-)...

If you have young kids, this is the place for you! The service was amazing and the accommodation for littles was something you don’t see at many places anymore. Our server was awesome and came by with a plastic cup with a lid and chopstick helpers for my son as well. She then made everything fun for him throughout our stay and grabbed his hot wheels from under the table for us when it fell and was just out of reach. When the food came (which was incredibly fast since they had 3 sushi chefs in) she also brought him a plastic dish that looked just like the ceramic one for me and she assisted with the table set up so nothing that could break was near him Throughout the dinner she accommodated myself and my son more than I could’ve asked for, and I really wish I had her name to give her credit.

Aside from all of the great accommodation, the ambiance and the food were awesome too, and Im excited to come back.

I am appalled at the service that I experienced at this location. My best friend and I ordered three sushi rolls for takeout. When we arrived home and realized that one of the sushi rolls were missing, the man who was in charge of packaging insinuated that we needed to travel ALL the way back to the location to show our order. When we arrived, he stated that he doesn’t make mistakes with regards to packaging, which FURTHER insinuated that we lied about it. Why would we have went through the trouble of traveling back if we were lying? We paid for three sushi rolls.

After going back and forth, he said, “we’re making you a tuna roll. Do you want it or not?” We already paid for it so how could he ask that question; we PAID for it.

I will not, and I mean NOT, return to support.

It’s sad to say this, but I wonder if he would have this same energy with other racially diverse...
