I ordered a large meat lover's stromboli for about $18 from the Savas in Philly. I was full once I ate about 3/5th of, which to me is equivalent to about a chipotle burrito. The taste was alright, but nothing to differentiate it from a normal chain restaurant. In terms of value and taste, I'd say it's about average. I preferred eating a burrito from El Taco, which was more filling for the price point and better tasting as well.
As for the customer service, it's the reason I've taken off two stars. The cashier who rang me up was visibly distracted and inattentive. For a solid minute or two, she was click-clacking away at the cash register before she asked me what I wanted. She had been working on something else instead of attending to the customer in front of her and when she finally asked for my order, she did in a very impersonal way. I took off half a star for that: While she wasn't a model cashier, she wasn't totally off-putting, just not good at customer service.
I had to wait about 20 minutes for my order, which was reasonable enough since they were making it from scratch, so I decided to observe the staff.
Where I took off the last 1.5 stars was the other cashier. She ate behind the counter... She was confrontational with customers on the phone and after she got off the phone with them, would talk trash about them to here coworkers in front of customers. Thankfully, her coworkers just quietly listened to her instead of joining in with her trash talking. While I know that food services staff do experience frustrations and can gossip about customers, I'd hope it'd be out of customer earshot. What she did was just plain unprofessional and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. To top it off, her notion of fun also included an instant where she was throwing something small at her coworker. Taken alone, it's a small gesture, but taken as part of the whole her behavior left me with a bad impression of Savas.
I don't intend to return here. There are other places with better customer service and better food. However, if you're not put off by unprofessional customer service and just want some pizza/stromboli, go ahead and get some food there -- the...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Savas Brick Oven Pizza left me thoroughly impressed and satisfied. From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I knew I was in for a treat.
The ambiance at Savas is warm and inviting, with a pleasant aroma of fresh pizza wafting through the air. The rustic decor and comfortable seating create a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the pizza. Oh boy, it was absolutely delightful! The brick oven cooking method truly makes a difference, resulting in pizzas with a perfectly crispy crust and a delectable blend of flavors. I opted for the Margherita pizza, and it was a symphony of fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, fragrant basil, and a drizzle of top-notch olive oil. Each bite was a heavenly experience, and I couldn't help but savor every morsel.
Apart from their mouthwatering pizzas, Savas also offers an impressive selection of appetizers and salads. The garlic knots were heavenly, and the Caesar salad was fresh and flavorful, making for an ideal complement to the main course.
The service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. Our orders were served promptly, and they made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
To top it all off, the prices were reasonable, considering the quality and portion sizes. I left feeling like I had enjoyed a luxurious dining experience without breaking the bank.
Savas Brick Oven Pizza undoubtedly earns my highest recommendation. It's a haven for pizza enthusiasts and anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. Whether you're a local or just passing through the area, do yourself a favor and make a stop at Savas. I'm already counting down the days until I can return and try more of their delectable creations. Bravo, Savas, for delivering a truly exceptional...
Read moreI go to the Community Education Center on a weekly basis for an improv comedy rehearsal group, and have on a few occasions gone to Savas for some coffee. I never tried their food until recently, and have sometimes found their waitresses (always female) to be a little standoffish.
On 1/29/12 I decided to go in for pre-improv dinner at around 6PM and was pleasantly surprised. My waitress Kaitiln was SUPER. Great personality, very attentive despite me being only one person. Everything was exactly as ordered and came out quickly. She was also very honest when helping me decide what to order, something I respect and which makes me want to be a repeat customer.
I had the Chicken Gyro platter which comes with a side of rice pilaf, and a side of fries. The fries left me underwhelmed; they could have easily been out of a bag though I was told they are fresh cut. The gyro itself was fantastic, with fresh onion and tomato and the perfect spices on the chicken. It was kind of dripping in tzatziki which was no big deal as I scraped the extra off. (It also came with a huge side of it, though, which went to waste.) It was also weird that they put french fries IN the gyro, but they were right on top so again I just pulled them off.
Sadly the rice pilaf was absolutely flavorless and a real let down. It may be a common dish but I hadn't actually had it in ages, so I was disappointed.
That being said, the gyro itself made the meal and the price was right. $9.25 for the platter, $1.38 for a bottled iced tea and $2.95 for the fries left my bill at $14.67 with tax. I left a $20 because I want Kaitlin to know that good service like hers for a table of one will be met with a tip worthy of...
