Bamboo Cafe — Restaurant in Phoenix

During a recent visit, our party was one of only two occupied tables in the restaurant. The other table appeared to consist of staff members on break. Our server took our order and delivered drinks but did not return to check in or refill water glasses, which remained empty throughout most of the meal.

A food runner brought out our food. Prior to this, we audibly heard her sneeze several times while behind the counter. Immediately afterward, she came into view to scoop rice on our plates without washing her hands. We observed this directly and confirmed the dishes were intended for our table. Basic hygiene practices were ignored. Additionally, several cleaning towels were stored in areas that raised sanitation concerns, including on the glasses/cup rack and in contact with to-go boxes on the shelf.

If you order fried rice, note that it is tasteless and is not like traditional Chinese fried rice. It does not have the eggs and vegetables (such as peas, carrots, and onions). If you order sweet and sour chicken, note you receive raw sliced vegetables (such as onion and green pepper).

The lack of attentiveness and hygiene practices were disappointing. The restaurant appeared to have several takeout orders during our visit, which looks like their priority....

I ordered a pickup for 715pm because that is when I was able to go get it. At 650pm I received a text that my food was ready and waiting. So of course when arrive at 713pm, it had been sitting on the baccounter and was cold. At first they were fine remaking the fried stuff that was ice cold. I said the other stuff was fine but the fried stuff needed to be remade. Then a woman came out from the back screaming and trying to blame me saying it was a 7 pickup. I have proof that it wasn’t and if that’s what they put in that’s not my problem. My food is COLD. She came out twice more very aggressively saying she knows when this was done and would not allow me to speak. Then she and other employees were yelling VERY loudly at each other making me extremely uncomfortable. Incredibly rude and horrible customer service. Admit to YOUR screw up and fix it. I didn’t pay for cold food. I used to love this place. Don’t think I will ever be...

We have ordered many times from Bamboo in the past. The egg drop soup is amazing! My husband loves the chicken and broccoli. It has been a while since we ate here because the last time we ordered the chicken tasted “fishy”. I’m guessing they cooked the chicken in the same wok as seafood. Finally, I agreed to order take out from them again, I selected General Tso Chicken as I have ordered it before and enjoyed it. Once we got home with the order, this was given to us (see photo). When Bamboo was called to notify them it didn’t seem right, they stated this is right and this is the general tso chicken. Probably wouldn’t be a problem if we didn’t have a mushroom allergy in our family. This is not what was ever served in the past, typically it is a light breaded chicken with sauce and a few broccoli spears. Disappointed x2. Not sure we will give them...
