I'm originally from Hawaii. My 2 girls Deborah and Elizabeth went to ASA (Arizona School for the Arts) a few years back. They now both go to ASU. They used to come here all the time and tell me about how wonderful and delicious it was! Last September 2013, I was working at the Maricopa Home and Garden Show, and I thought, "Hey, after all these years, I think I'll take my daughter's advice & visit the Blue Fin Teriyaki Grill?" Besides it was after lunch time and I was might hungry! I ordered the Daily Special: Teriyaki Chicken with Salad, Brown rice & egg rolls for around $ 8. Then I noticed besides the Mainland Soft drinks (Coke, etc.) they also had Aloha Drinks: Guava, Lilikoi, etc.-I was feeling like "At Home, in the Islands"! Then Aunty Betsey, came out, and was so friendly, asking if the food was what I expected? And I told her, "Mo-bettah" than I expected! She disappeared, and a few minutes later, she appears with some "Surprises": Coconut shrimp & Krab Won tons, and homemade Orange & Ginger sauce. I said, "What's this for?" And she replied, "Since it's your first time, I thought you try my Special Dipping sauce. And of course, you need something to dip into!" So we sat down and began talking. I told her I wrote a song for Trader Joe's, called "Da Trader Joe's Song". And if she kept inspiring me like this, I would write a song for her restaurant, "Blue Fin Teriyaki Grill". Aunty Betsey is "so cute". She reminds me of my own mom, who passed on to heaven in 2012. She introduced me to her husband, and one of her daughters, on subsequent visits. This place not only has Healthy, great Japanese Food, but such a friendly, upbeat atmosphere. I would suggest you take advantage of it, while Aunty Betsey and her great staff is still here! Aloha Pumehana (with much love)......Imua...
Read moreOk, here goes just another opinion . First time dining here .At first glance from the outside, it's a little questionable, especially being a restaurant that serves fish. One can never be too careful about quality unless you like the consequences. The interior is very clean , smells good, and is very inviting. The staff and the owner were very welcoming and appreciative . We ordered 3 plates . 1st plate . Chicken teriyaki bowl was hands down the best we have ever had. Perfect amount of teriyaki, the chicken was amazing, and the rice was spot on. 5/5 Plate #2 chicken fried rice . There was a lack of chicken, and the flavor was good but didn't have the wow factor of the teriyaki bowl. 3/5 Plate #3. Sweet and sour chicken was really good, but the chicken did have a bit of fishy flavor to it. 3.5 / 5 California roll was amazing. Straight up legit, Wasabi. 5/5 Coconut shrimp was also amazing and a little different than what I'm used to but very fresh. 4/5 Overall, 4.5 / 5 whe you find a place like this, you have to try it at least once . We will definitely be back...
Read moreI was wanting to come here for years, had heard and read good things. Biggest disappointment ever. Ordered Terriyaki Chicken, but instead recieved some kind of reddish stewed tough flavorless chicken, also ordered somono, cubercumbers were ok but near flavorless. My wife's chicken was just as terrible and her krab puffs we're flavorless. At least her Coke and my lemonade had some flavor as that's all that did.
I was looking forward to some sushi or Japanese specality. If this place ever was special in any way, now it's just a whole in the wall run down, one time but no longer, has been place that I would be cautious about eating at.
If I was starving and I was offered free food there, I would decline. I saw on the menu egg rolls, surprising at what is promoted as a Japanese eatery, if that is your choice just go down to Jack in the box, it's got to be better, with their quality standards, which this place...
