Whoever takes care of this park is severely under rated. Every day they come through and pick up after one of the most disrespectful homeless populations I have ever seen. The fact the place is not completely destroyed is a mystery to me. A-lot of people like to sit in the grass area and read. Just yesterday I had a lady smoking her favorite life stealing substance off of a peace of tin foil next to me. Wide open field but 10 feet away from me was her choice. The absolute worst is drugged out homeless people with pit bulls who pass out and leave their dog unattended. So if you have a dog just know that if you do not carry protection a very terrible situation could occur in regard to the above. I have volunteered more than the average person when it comes to helping people on drugs. What the general population needs to understand about the homeless is that 80 percent of them choose to be there. They will preach against the “rate race” system but then leach off of its infrastructure. Also people will come to the green space with their large dogs and run them around without a leash even though there is a dog park five minutes away. The only thing holding this place together is the wonderful Park Rangers and Phx police (who are simply overwhelmed), the maintenance staff who probably are not being paid enough for what they have to put up with (other then the bathrooms the landscaping and most things are immaculate for the situation at hand), and the wonderful families and everyday people who show up and give a sense of safety for the local community who are actually grateful for such a beautiful modern park. One star because we will lose beautiful places like this if we do not make a ruckus about it. PC is used as a way for politicians to do nothing about the parasitic homeless. I say this because once upon a time I was a young kid in AZ and had to make choice about saving myself. Also not forget children will have to live in this world when...
Read moreA beautiful place to visit indeed! It is easy to miss this park since it sits below the bridge. I only discovered it upon getting off the train to take pics of the flags I had always seen upon my passing. Though hidden, it is still a great locational companion ( if such a phrase exists) to the famous Burton Barr Library.
It has an awesome track for jogging , biking, skating, taking a relaxing walk, and plenty of sitting area for reading a good book as well. Sitting area can either be on the grass or the plenty of chairs placed bear the north side of the park.
Margaret T Hance Park has a full childrens park as well and the entire grounds near it are good for them to run around as well, in plain sight of parents and guardians.
What most surprised me about this park is that it had a volleyball play area with net, beach sand, and even chairs nearby to sit back and watch the game. I was intrigued indeed to see that people actually came out to play full force.
The downside to this park that one needs to be aware of is the homeless population that passes through and sometimes camp out at the park. Most do not bother anyone and are just there to rest, but my last visit there I came across a few suspicious activity bear the bathroom area. I believe they were doing drugs and two women seemed to have just washed up there. The bathroom was filthy so if you must use the washroom go to the Burton Barr library for theirs are almost always cleaner. And do not send your children to the bathroom by themselves as a safety precaution. I mention this because I see this all too often and I do not think it us wise.
Overall, the place us beautiful and makes for excellent pictures...
Read moreThis bald, probably slightly racist, security guard that was at the entrance came over to me on Saturday and told me to leave. I asked why, and he didn't say why. I said okay I'll be back for Day 2 tomorrow I guess. The next day again just watching the bands play, this same bald security guard with a purple shirt on somehow finds me in the crowd (mind you I am just standing there, not even talking to anyone), again tells me to leave. This time with the police escorting me out. I asked the nice police officers what I did, and why am I being kicked out?! Their answer, "no idea, he (the bold purple shirt entrance security guard) just said so, so we are following his request." They genuinely looked confused too. So I left. This guy ruined my experience both days for no reason and I've been there for M83 and other times and had zero issues. The worst part is that he didn't even explain why at all. He needs to be fired because I paid a lot for VIP and I would understand if I was fighting someone or even arguing, but I was literally just standing there when this guy just comes up to me and tells me to leave, it's madness! You all can thank him for letting people know to be careful if you are "different", you might get some bald security guard harassing you and kicking you out...
