Probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had going out to eat. Our recent visit was a letdown, primarily due to a lack of transparency and poor service. We arrived on a hot day and waited 30 minutes outside, since there was no room to wait indoors. We were okay with waiting and being outside until our table was called, expecting to cool off inside. We were not told upon arrival that the air conditioning was broken until after we were seated, after I mentioned how hot it was. It was extremely uncomfortable for us and for the staff, who were all visibly sweating. The visible beads of sweat on our server and other staff members were a major hygiene concern. I felt bad for them, but it was difficult not to worry about the cleanliness of our food and drinks. It made me wonder about the conditions for the cooks in the kitchen—if the front-of-house staff was sweating that much, it must have been even worse in the kitchen. It was hard to enjoy our meal while being concerned about sweat potentially getting into our food or drinks. The service was also slow. Our drinks and food took a long time to arrive. The food itself was a major disappointment, especially for the price. I ordered the avocado toast, which the menu described as a "thick cut sliced bread." It was a single, thin slice of bread that wasn't toasted at all and was very difficult to cut into It had a minimal amount of toppings and a cold egg, all for around $16. It was a poor value for the portion size. It was hard to enjoy the meal in such a hot and humid environment. The manager circulated, but never acknowledged the problem or offered any compensation, which would have gone a long way. I know things happen like the AC going out isn’t in their control but at least telling people straight up so they can make a decision whether to stay or not. There were no fans either. The AC barely started working as we were leaving. The lack of communication, slow service, and major hygiene concerns means we will not...
Read moreTook my mom here on Easter Sunday. Arrived early, 9am, to ensure we’d get a table quickly; I’d been here before and there is usually quite a wait. We walked inside and no one greeted us, though an employee did look our way. After a full minute someone assisted us, and we requested the patio, which we’d walked by on our way in and saw several open tables. Two employees at what I think was a hostess stand (it seemed to be in the kitchen almost?) conferred and then one said something and walked toward the patio. My impression was that she was checking to see where to seat us, but then we realized she expected us to follow her so we did. There were two four-tops next to each other. She placed the menus on the table in the sun. I asked if we could sit at the table that was totally shaded, literally adjacent to the table she’d chosen (I was wearing a sun hat and my mom is in her 70s and pale as heck!). Looking visibly annoyed with us, she said sure, moved the menus, and then said something about 90 minutes. I asked for clarification and she explained there was a 90-minute policy “so like you can’t sit here for three hours”. At this point I’d had enough of her attitude and said, “but 90 minutes is 1.5 hours, right?” She gave me a look and walked off. I thought, wow, you are about to have a very busy Sunday and your attitude is this poor already? Yikes! Fortunately the servers were awesome as was the food (pb&j french toast, pecan pancakes, latte, peach Bellini, sides of carnitas and brisket). I’ll be back and I hope this post encourages management to have a chat with their staff about properly greeting patrons and how to determine where best to seat them. Further while I understand the 90-minute policy, never have I ever had it stated so rudely, or frankly at all. Perhaps a note on the menu or on the table would do the job better than forcing your hosts to have an awkward conversation with patrons, particularly when said hosts aren’t great with...
Read moreIt was just OK - likely wouldn't return. To start, the way they handle reservations is not customer friendly or productive. You can't make them in advance; you have to show up in person and put your name on a list. At that time, they take your phone number and agree to text you when your table is available, but there is no place to wait other than outdoors. In 108 degree weather, that just doesn't work. We had to wander through the Ace Hardware next door waiting for the text to keep from getting heatstroke. The amount of time they told us we would wait was not accurate; we finally went back to the restaurant and inquired. At that time, we were told they could seat us if we were willing to change what we had asked for previously, and take an outdoor table. Since we had already been waiting close to 40 minutes, we said we'd give that a try, but the way the misters and "shade" is set up, there is no escape from Phoenix's relentless heat.
Two of our chairs were crazy-wobbly, we had to switch out with other chairs. Staff acted as if they were not aware of this issue (even though visually it was obvious both chair legs were broken). Table, chairs and ground were not clean (sticky and a lot of built-up dirt indicating they hadn't been cleaned in quite some time). Makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like.
And - a note about the food and service. Pretty middle of the road on both counts. Eggs benedict was just OK - hollandaise didn't have much flavor, and sides were not as ordered. Pancakes were decent but nothing to write home about. Wait staff had to be asked a few times to bring items they had forgotten. Overall, nothing here that would make the wait or the uncomfortable...
