This is a long one…This was our first time ordering from Canton Dragon, but it won't be our last. We placed a large order (we like variety): one appetizer, one soup, one vegetable, one carbohydrate, one carb/veggie combo, and five entrees. The order was To Go. Our order was ready exactly on time. They even called to ask if we wanted them to wrap the Mu Shu Pork for us. At first I thought the food was a little on the pricey side…until I saw the amount of food that we received! I was expecting those little, customary, oriental food take-out boxes that fold closed at the top. These items all came in large Styrofoam boxes…the type one would get from Panda Express…only LARGER. I was hoping for enough left-overs to allow us two full meals. I would not be at all surprised if we get SIX full meals, or more. This was our impression of the dishes we ordered. Not everyone will like every dish. Overall, we were very impressed and will definitely be back again: PORK MOO SHU: probably the most pork I’ve ever had in this dish! Tasted great and the pancakes were easily 2x the size of those I’ve usually received. Only disappointment – no sauce to smear on the pancakes. We added our own Hoisin and it was glorious. HOT AND SOUR SOUP: Oh, Yeah! The initial comment was, “Wow! That’s spicy!”, accompanied by a very large grin. Even if we had liked nothing else, we would have returned for the soup alone. COMBO FRIED RICE: Magnificent! We’re used to getting rice with small bits of the protein added in, that one had to hunt for to find. In this case, the shrimp were large, the chicken was generous, and the pork was abundant and tender. COMBO CHOW MEIN: Same as the Combo Fried Rice! Excellent! CANDIED WALNUT SHRIMP: Fabulous! Extra large shrimp, generous serving of candied walnuts and a super tasty sauce. SWEET AND SOUR PORK: Slightly disappointed. Way too much breading on rather tiny pieces of pork. Also, would have preferred it had already been tossed with the sauce, and a few more veggies/pineapple would have been nice. KUNG PAO CHICKEN: Great flavor, but not at all spicy (to our taste). I am sensitive to spicy dishes, and usually cannot eat Kung Pao. I had no problem with this dish. If you like it spicy/hot, order it extra-extra spicy. MONGOLIAN BEEF: Tasted great, but no spark at all. We ordered it “spicy”, but even then, there was no kick. Next time we’ll order it double or triple-spicy/hot. MIXED VEGETABLES: Tasted just fine. Nice mix of veggies with a mild, light sauce. Could go a little lighter on the amount of sauce and it would still be absolutely delicious. PO PO PLATTER: I wish I could be more positive about this dish, but perhaps this was just a bad day, or maybe this order was just left on the burner a little too long. This is the only dish that we felt was a disappointment The chicken skewers and bbq ribs were way over-cooked – dry, tough, and hard to bite through the crusty, burned-on sauce. The paper wrapped chicken filling was more like a dumpling filling (minced and formed) rather than a small piece of meat, and whatever sauce they added was all baked on to the foil so that nothing coated or flavored the dense, rather tough, “log” of chicken filling. The fried shrimp, although looking huge, were mostly (3/4ths, at least) batter. The egg rolls were much larger than expected - dark golden, crispy on the outside, but the inside of the wrap was rather doughy and tough to bite through. The filling tasted great, though. Might try this Platter one more time to see if this was just a one-time issue.
All in all, I highly recommend Canton Dragon. The people were super nice, the portions are beyond generous, and the prices are excellent for the amount of food you receive. There was enough food to feed 6-8 people! Now…if they only offered half-sized portions, I'd be in...
Read moreThe food was good, about as average as other Chinese cuisine restaurants, though the fried rice was really good. Big portions. Got charged for an item I didn't order. I ordered two entrees that came with white rice, asked if I could substitute both for fried rice (not an option on the menu, but thought I could ask and see if it could be done) and the lady on the phone, though maybe confused, said yes.
Ended up with an order of their "house" (maybe the combo?) fried rice, so that was an extra $10 I didn't plan on spending. But I also got a side of fried rice, so I'm not sure where the confusion was.
The main reason for the 3 stars was the execution of the takeout order. They put everything in one bag, which came out to be 3 to-go boxes of heavy food (there had to be about 2 pounds of food in EACH styrofoam box) and the box on the bottom, the one containing the most sauce, was completely crushed when we got home. It was such a mess, the sauce was all over the bag. Would it have really cost them that much to use two bags? Heck, I'll donate my grocery bags to them if that's the case! It was just really inconvient and frustrating to deal with the mess; one of the reasons for spending money to order out is for the convenience and we definitely got gypped on that...
Read moreCan't believe this heavenly place was under my eyes this whole time. I was craving for some delicious and authentic Chinese food, not Panda Express, and I found this place. Girlfriend and I gave it a shot and it was worth it.
Pricing is very reasonable considering the LARGE portions they give you. Legit no lie, I thought the lady gave me the wrong plate. The beef fried rice was enough to serve 3 people. It was huge.
Service was adequate. Fast and on time. No problems here, but not enough to make an applause for.
The interior of this establishment could use some more lighting. It was very dim. I know, I know. Some people would think, "All this and this is what your complaining about??" First and foremost, I like to see what I'm eating. I love a bright and comfortable scenary when I'm enjoying my food. It just who I am and this is an honest review.
Other than that, I would highly recommend this place. Called my dad after I finished eating and told him to check this place out.
Thanks Canton Dragon. You'll be seeing...
