I've been to two different Korean BBQ restaurants twice each, and I would say that this one is highly preferable to the other. The other, at Tempe Marketplace, is $25 for dinner for a grill only. What I absolutely love about Central is they are $23 for dinner, and you get the choice between both grilling, AND hot pot cooking, at the same table for the same price. At the other Korean BBQ at Tempe Marketplace, you have to order a plate, with mushrooms/peppers/carrots/onions as one of your dishes. At Central however, they have an all you can pick salad bar like area, with a wide selection of vegetables and such, from carrot slices, cabbage, rice and ramen noodles, big and small mushrooms, that you can come up to at any time to complement the meats you cook up. Their marinated beef bulgogi, boneless marinated beef, and thin sliced beef brisket are delicious, with the latter being great boiled in the hot pot as well as on the grill. The grill/pot is also very easy to clean, making your cooking easy throughout your meal. While I haven't personally had the lunch menu, for the discounted price they still offer a good variety of meats that are surely worth the price! The bathrooms are also very nice and clean as well. The only thing, which again, is prevalent at ALL Korean BBQ restaurants is table size. About 5-6 people is the maximum that can comfortably fit at one table.
I would highly recommend this place for a nice relaxed date out, special occasions, or just a good treat. The service I've had the last two times were phenomenal, friendly as can be. For residents in Southern Phoenix, I'd highly recommend for more people to come here, as it's the only nearby Korean BBQ, and a very nice...
Read moreI've got a fair share of KBBQ experience from here in the valley. Both of the big chains, as well as several of the independent places. I just had my first KBBQ in KoreaTown on a recent trip to L.A.(wonderful). So, that said....I think this place has a lot to offer for the affcionado.
You can get a 'strandard' grill, curved at the peak, with the flame able to come through on the outer edges. Or, you can get a divided grill, designed mostly for the hot-pot soup experience that the restaurant also offers. That's pretty neat for two diners with differing tastes, or to have both soup and grill items. You can easily adjust the heat yourself via digital controls right alongside. No need to crane over/under the table to reach the dial/s.
Because of the soup option, this is where the venue really shines. There's a large 'buffet' style cooler with iced-down seafood options of shrimp, clams, mussles, squid, and octopus. Plus, several different types of unique and delicious mushrooms. Needless to say, about every vegetable you can imagine. Since I've gone pescatarian, it's absolutely wonderful for me. MOST of these restaurants are highly meat-centric with but a handful of seafood options. Mind you, this is only available at dinner price, whether that's at the lunch hour, or not. The 'lunch' price is soley devoted to a selection of meats.
I've had marvelous service from three different ladies, one of whom is sadly no longer there. HOwever, both Jenae (sp?) and Valencia are tops in taking good care of your needs...
Read moreCame in here on a Saturday night due to every other KBBQ place in an hour distance being at a 2 hour waitlist. We called this place and there was no wait time. What we thought was good luck ended up being a red flag that we missed. We spent about 30 minutes of waiting with no water or rice for our first order of raw meat to arrive. When it did, it was a single serving for one person when there were three of us. After asking several times for our raw meat from multiple servers, the manager comes over to our table. The manager was rude, unprofessional, and still refused to bring out the food we had ordered. You can tell that they were purposefully being cheap and trying to pinch every penny out of every customer. The food was tasteless, unseasoned, and we left feeling unwell after the meal. While paying, an employee took my credit card to the back for unknown and suspicious reasons. I confronted the manager for taking my card back and even asked the waiter why they had done that. Our waiter actually stood up for us and told us that they were trying to up charge us for meat that we never got because we had to leave. The waiter argued for us that our meat wasn't even at our table and they can't charge us for food we never got. The manage eventually released my card after an eerie 10 minutes and I even took a picture of the receipt in case they were trying to pull one over on us.
