Esso Coffeehouse — Restaurant in Phoenix

Visited June 14th.

I was so excited to come check out this shop since it’s about 2 minutes from my house and they have a Harry Potter themed summer menu. I will say that the drinks were fantastic and the atmosphere of the shop is super cute and quiet enough to get work done or enjoy an Intimate conversation.. however the experience that we had with the barista was very very off putting.

We were complimenting the shop audibly all the way up until we placed an order but even then they seemed frustrated that we didn’t know what we wanted right off the bat. Like I said, I was excited to check out their HP themed menu but didn’t know what the drinks were so I needed a minute. I told them it was my first time in but they ignored the statement and left us standing at the bar while they went and did a couple other things, which wasn’t in itself a big problem, but it would have been nice to get some recommendations when we voiced that we were unsure of what to drink instead of leaving us standing there .

When we gave them our order they didn’t look up at us and seemed very put off by our presence there. However another customer, seemingly a regular, came in and they were pleasant and talkative and gave suggestions / recommendations. It was a little hurtful since I was so excited to come in and check it out. The coffee is good but the customer service was pretty bad. I expected at least the minimum and got less than that. Small, cute, local coffee shop inside a big building. Owners and staff are very professional and made the coffee extra hot as requested. Plenty of parking outside the place which the building is in a corner so parking goes around. There are tables outside the shop and few inside, so you xan sit and enjoy. I didn't check if they had wifi or not but iam sure they have it. It's not a place to sit and do work as tables send space is limited but definitely for short period to sit and enjoy the coffee. We have a Latte, extra hot with Vanilla flavor and it was good, at least you taste the actual coffee and not being watered down like some other places in the surrounding areas. What a great place! Finally a decent cuppa coffee after all the battery acid being dispensed at pretentious outlets by prepubescent hipster wannabes! Lovely and quiet, cozy and most importantly, great coffee. To add to that, this establishment has a manual Victoria Arduino espresso machine (see pictures) which is a nice touch! The gentleman who served us was super friendly and very glad we appreciated his product, even offered to make us extra espressos for free. Unfortunately, we were all so caffeinated by this point that I could not accept the offer :) Bottom line - if you want a great cup of espresso (and derivatives), Esso is the place to go! Highly recommended and we'll visit again...
