3️⃣-Point Review ✅
🍗Food🍟 • Omg I LOVE MRS CHICKEN! I’m not even kidding I think about eating here at least 3 times a week lol. So I’ve gone plenty of times, tried just about everything but the chicken sandwich (and some of the sides) and really love how they do fried chicken. My favorite is the “Leg Quarter” combo which is a leg & thigh (bone-in fried). As with all the chicken items on the menu, they pre-spice the batter to what level of spice you want (Mild up to Super Spicy) I always get the standard “Hot” level. It’s different than other bone-in fried chicken because of the spiced/flavored batter AND the skin DOESNT stick to the meat like most places. It’s truly amazing wow. Each meal includes a piece of toast & a side of your choice. The fires are thick cut and great too. You also get to pick a sauce, I always do ranch. I don’t want to exaggerate too much but this maybe the best fried chicken in America! I’ve also tried their house dessert “Butter-Carmel Cake” and it’s sooooo good
👨🍳Service👩🍳 • It’s a fast casual restaurant, so you order and sit then you pick it up. I usually call my order in roughly 15-20min AHEAD of time because everything is made as you order and you need to let the food cool down for a few lol. Employees are so nice too, they’ve always been super generous with portions which keeps me coming back. However I do wish they were up a little bit later than 7pm, there are times I would have gone after but couldn’t because they were closed
🍽️Atmosphere🪑 • Nice little eating space inside & out on the patio. I have probably gone 15~ times and it is always SPOTLESS in the dining area. I always call ahead my order but sit down inside because I can’t wait to eat my fried chicken Ahaha. They also have a bathroom in the back that isn’t really advertised, but just ask one of the employees and they’ll show...
Read moreI’m thinking I’m gonna do a 🌶 🐔 🥪 (spicy chicken sandwich) tour. Which calls for traveling far and wide in search of the best spicy chicken sandwich.
That said, first up we have Mrs. Chicken. A slightly above moderately priced establishment tucked away in phoenix/Arcadia borderline (32nd st, just south of Indian school). I was out on by a dear friend that shares my same excitement and passion for a bombtastic chicken sandwich.
This establishment is small but clean with seating inside and outside with a mister system for the blistering Arizona heat or, which oddly makes perfect sense, the misting system could be meant to cool your body down for the level of extreme heat you’ll experience from taking one bite of a “hot” leveled sandwich. Don’t underestimate the level of spicy each level is. I had the hot yardbird and it was a little more than I could handle. And trust me when I say this, I can handle the heat.
Overall, my experience was great. The chicken was crispy and made fresh. The additional sauces you can purchase was great with dipping the sandwich in to reduce the heat. The only thing lacking was the counter service, it was my first time and I was hoping for an friendly and fun run down of how to really experience what Mrs. Chicken has to offer. I’m not saying be overly excited about a guest’s first time arrival but hit me with “yo, you should really get this because it’s so fire” or “ a lot of our guest get this dish and compliment it with our Arnold Palmer”. In reality, it was more like “What would you like to eat?” Please don’t confuse this as bad customer service, the young gentleman that helped me was polite and attentive. He just didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to wow a...
Read moreCame here on a chill Saturday afternoon around 5:30pm and was shocked to find a lull in the busyness of the place. None the less I ordered the 1/2 Byrd 1/4 mild and the other 1/4 medium, with fries and the mustard slaw. After about 15 mins my food was presented to me Hot and fresh. I was very pleased with the portions provided. The food was delicious. Theres definitely a difference in mild and medium, but nothing too overbearing. The medium is just right to enjoy the heat and spice and not have it over power the meal. The mustard slaw was a new try for me and it wasn't bad at all. Definitely different than any slaw im used to or have had before but I was surprisingly pleased.
My only 2 get betters that made me give 4 stars for the food instead of 5, are: the chicken was fried hard and the slaw could've been a little more creamer. I understand a lot of people like thier chicken fried hard but its not my thing and the slaw needs something to make it a little more wet.
However, the hidden gem is the ranch sauce. Now listen I'm not a ranch kinda guy, but it provided the perfect balance to and enhanced the flavor and spiciness of the Byrd!
I'll be back to try the sandwich and the tenders as I heard they are some of the best...
