I wanted to have a small surprise birthday get together for my 11 year old daughter and a few of her school friends on Friday at 4pm. I figure we will have about 12 people in attendance. My daughter and I have gluten sensitivity, so picking a place is not always an easy task. She loves pizza, so I decided on Ray's Pizza at 4705 E Carefree Hwy since they have a fairly large restaurant, booth seating and gluten free pizza. I called them today to confirm that it would be ok for us to bring dessert with us for the occasion. Apparently, the owner's son took my call. I explained the situation and he pleasantly told me it wouldn't be a problem to bring dessert and thanked me for my call. It was a short, pleasant conversation. A few minutes later, I received a call back from Ray's Pizza. The man calling asked if I just spoke with his son about a party and told me he is the owner. He proceeded to ask me if I wanted a reservation or something. I told him that I did not think he took them but it would be great to have a reservation. He then said, "I don't take reservations and I don't do parties, because for 30 bucks worth of pizza, it's too much trouble on a Friday night to have to deal with people who expect full service.". I explained to him that I wasn't expecting full service, I was just looking for a place where my daughter could enjoy gluten free pizza for her birthday. He said, "If you have 4 or 5 people, it would be ok, but if you have more it's not worth it for 30 bucks in pizza, because all these people bring in their water and they want to use my cups and drink all my soda for free and it's just not worth the time and money it costs me.". At this point, I said, "So, you don't want my business?" He said, "I'm not being mean. Trust me, I like business...". I cut him off and said, "No, you're being honest and for that, I won't waste your time. I will just take my business elsewhere.". He said, "ok", and ended the call. I do understand he's in business to make money to provide for his family, not to cater to my needs. However, with a 10" gluten free pizza costing $12.50 each, needing 2 of them, in addition to 2+ large pizzas, 2+ orders of wings, drinks, tip, etc., we would have spent well over "30 bucks". I'm sorry he feels that our business is a waste of his time and money and that "we" are...
Read moreI am very disappointed with the treatment I just received from the owner of Ray's. I have been going to his restaurant for about 5 years and have referred many people to him. We like our sandwich a certain way and last time it was cold and the cheese wasn't melted. When I ordered tonight I asked for them to toast the bread and then make sure the ham & cheese were melted. When I came in , he started berating me in front of other customers and just kept saying hot or cold, I don't care about last time. He wouldn't let me explain, just kept cutting me off and yelling the same thing over and over. I realized he wasn't going to let me say anything so I said "okay". Thinking I'll never come back after this. He just kept going beating a dead horse and finally I had enough and talked over him to say we had just wanted it hot and I didn't appreciate him berating me in front of everyone. I pointed out that he didn't have to handle it this way, he could have just talked to me. I understand especially right now everyone is stressed and times are tough but we can just talk...
