We were excited to try the new restaurant in Cave Creek so we gave it a shot. The girl at the counter was friendly, and the restaurant itself was clean, definitely appreciated that. We ordered the gyro plate but had mixed feelings. The meat was sliced thin and came out a bit greasy. The pita was warm and soft, which was a plus, and we did really enjoy the tzatziki sauce.
Unfortunately, the rest of the plate just didn’t deliver. The fries came unseasoned, the rice (looked like short grain) was bland with zero flavor, and the hummus was thick, grainy, and also lacked seasoning. For a place that came highly recommended, it missed the mark for both me and my wife.
We’ve been to a lot of Greek restaurants and gyro spots over the years, flavor and bold seasoning are usually the highlights. Cave Greek Gryos just didn’t taste like any Greek place we've been to. Prices were fair, but they really need to dial in the seasoning. This place is newer so there is opportunity for some tweaks to get better with their food.
Decent service, decent prices, but for us the food just didn’t live up...
Read moreWeight Shorted Ordered 1 lb of gyro, received only 0.6 lb — 40% less than paid for. The meat was cut into 1/2 in by 1/2 in squares rather than the usual long strips, possibly to mask the short weight. No condiments were included. Pita was overpriced at $2 per piece.
Credit Card Upcharge They add a fee for credit card payments. When I said I don’t support that practice, the cashier was polite, but another employee (acting like a manager/owner) came to my table, was aggressive, said he didn’t want to provide my order, and that they didn’t want my business if I wouldn’t support the restaurant.
Overall Experience This was my second visit. The first time, shortly after opening, the food was edible but unremarkable. I came back months later hoping for improvement. The food was the same, the service was worse, and I was the only customer...
Read moreWe've been excited to try this place and finally got in there last night. Have to say that sadly it was a bit disappointing. The food was ready for pick-up 15 minutes after they said online that it would be ready.
As for the food, the meats were all good, the pita was good and the fries were fantastic. Where things weren't great was in the sides and sauces. The rice was flavorless and the hummus tasted like someone forgot the chickpeas and garlic and really just tasted like tahini. The salad dressing was just red wine vinegar, no oil, no spices.
Everyone has an off night occasionally and hopefully that's what they had as the restaurant was nice and the girl at the counter...
