I have been a loyal customer for my landscape business for years. This morning, while shopping at this Home Depot, equipment was stolen from my trailer. An employee informed me that there would be video surveillance of the individual who stole from me. To be clear... I am not the first person carrying small equipment that has been stolen from that particular parking lot. Lucky landscapers who have multiple people on their crews always leave one guy at the truck for security. Unfortunately, I am a staff of 1, and I guess I just happened to be there during the thieves, from the sounds of it regular, parking lot sweep.
According to Home Depot corporate, they can't give me any information about the individual who stole from me, even a description from the video, unless the police involved. Lucky me I am in MCSO jurisdiction and they are not interested.
Those posted video surveillance signs are not there to protect the customer, but to protect Home Depot only. Stealing equipment or construction materials from customers in the parking lot just drives business after all! They can just replace what was stolen right inside the store by purchasing new.
Now as luck would have it, I have seen a guy selling new and used equipment out of a U-Haul on the side of the road out here. Because I (was) still hoping that as a society we have not devolved into stealing from each other every chance we get, I didn't make the connection until just now. I know once driving by there were new blowers in boxes... But again, I'm kind of naive. I assumed they were factory seconds, etc. They were Echo boxes, the brand sold by Home Depot. Home Depot was most interested in the information of the roadside seller for its own purposes, but could care less if that information could also help a customer who was the victim of theft while on Home Depot property.
So, I guess the moral of the story is, if you want to make a cheap living, steal from vehicles in the Home Depot parking lot. Don't worry about who you steal from, chances are very high Home Depot will have what they need inside the store for them to repurchase! It's a win-win for both thieves (easy pickings from unsuspecting customers) and Home Depot (They get to sell customers the same things multiple times).
In order to be able to work today, I did attempt to buy a blower, yes from Home Depot. People get upset if their landscapers don't show up immediately and on time. But as I said, I've been a loyal customer for years. I know better than to leave that parking lot without first assembling and starting the equipment! And, according to the 30% rule, (Only 30% of the items work out of the box ) of course the one I purchased was apparently a return where no one checked for the parts so it could not be assembled.
Lowe's just got themselves a new and...
Read moreI ordered a Chamberlain garage opener on line and picked it up in the store and brought it home. Later in the afternoon, my garage door installer/professional arrived to install it. He soon knocked on my door and advised me that Home Depot sold me a damaged/returned opener. He showed me that the box was ripped and taped up (I didn't notice the tape when I bought it because I just assumed tape was normal). He also showed me how someone had bent some of the rods and that everything was just thrown into the box in shambles. He then pointed out where the finish on the materials was gone because someone had screwed it together prior. He refused to install something that was damaged and re-packaged and advised me to take it back. I took the unit back and showed them the things the contractor showed me. They agreed but then here is where it gets irritating. They told me to go pick up a new one (In Isle 24/Bay 1) and bring it up front. Didn't offer to have someone go get it for me? I went and picked up the product and brought it back up. They checked the box several times to make sure I had picked the right product -- it almost felt like they didn't trust that I grabbed the right item or possibly that I was grabbing an item that was more expensive and trying to get away with it. Once they looked it over several times, they stated it was the same one and that I was free to take it. As I turned around I heard a sorry and thanks. The lady that helped me was nice and seemed shocked that I had been sold a damaged product that was re-packed. I guess I was expecting a little more from Home Depot and this is why I am giving them a 1 star. I would have thought they'd have offered me a gift card, maybe a discount, but at the VERY LEAST, offered to have someone grab a replacement for me and take it to my vehicle. Two trips to Home Depot and a wasted 2 hours of my day. Plus, now I'll have to reschedule my contractor for the install, but thats just the life of a Home Depot customer I guess. Anyway, I have never liked the service at Home Depot and I haven't shopped there in years because of it. I only went to this store because the contractor suggested it. I learned my lesson, I'll never go back and I suggest you consider other businesses before chosing this...
Read moreOne of the worst experiences I have ever had. Bought a really nice MAX AIR Compressor and it showed up damaged. The store didn't want to take care of it. Had to call the warranty company. They were very nice and sent parts 2 different times. Still didn't fix it. I had to replace the parts which I didn't mind .At that time I called the warranty company back to pick it back up. Was told I had to call the store back. So I go down there and they already new about the compressor being damaged? WTH Why would you send it out that way? But they did. I am there 30 minutes with David and he says everything is taken care of and they will pick it up Monday or Tuesday. I was in there on a Friday. Thursday comes and the compressor is still waiting to be picked up. Meanwhile the Home dept Credit Card company is calling me non-stop wanting payment. I explained to them the whole situation but obviously that didn't matter because they have called me everyday since. I call David back and I ask when is this going to be picked up I have the card company blowing my phone up. He puts me on hold for 15-20 minutes and then tells me that the driver wasn't able to pick it up. I was to told it would be Monday. I told him I want a call from his manager because this is unacceptable . He said he would have his Manager Gary call me . Well it's now Tuesday I still have the compressor and still have not got a call from anyone! I do not recommend anyone going here. All I want is my Credit Card refunded. Their Customer service is the worst. Oh and trying to get a hold of a live person at the Corp office is dang...
